Beloved classic GoldenEye 007 lands on Switch and Xbox this week

One of Rare's most well-known titles is hitting modern platforms this week. GoldenEye 007 is launching on Xbox through Game Pass and Nintendo Switch on January 27th, marking the first re-release of the 1997 N64 game, not counting a remake in 2010 made by Eurocom. Online multiplayer will be an included feature, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, while the Xbox release will have traditional split-screen multiplayer.

Meh, I would have said the same thing not too long ago.

I just mastered the game (with retro achievements basically twice because I didn't have hardcore mode enabled the first time) on the Steam Deck, docked, with Switch Pro controller, in native widescreen (which can be changed in the watch pause menu)... and it was glorious.

Of course, it played smoother because the framerate on the original N64 (which I still own) is terrible.

Edit: re: retro achievements: Beating the game with enemy rockets on Agent was fun. Beating Cradle on 00 Agent while crouched... was not. Other than that I had a blast. And I'm generally a purist. Would recommend in case the Switch version doesn't have the achievements system.

I have tried on a Raspberry Pi4 (8 GB RAM) and it was laughably bad, I have seen it running on Retroarch via Xbox series S and it was quite slow and jerky too.

I believe the smoothness of emulation is down to the underlying hardware architecture rather than how powerful its processor / how much RAM it has, along with the choice of emulator and the actual game itself. For example Super Mario 64 runs with no issues at all on the Raspberry Pi4

I've actually been playing that leaked 360 build on the Aya Neo Air recently through Xenia and it runs perfectly. I'd honestly rather play it on the Air than the switch for handheld play. I thought when they announced this that it was going to be similar to that build where you could switch to more "modern" graphics with the switch of a button but it's seems like it's essentially a modified n64 rom. I'm assuming the microsoft/rare replay version is closer to that leaked build though.
Still really cool for them to finally re-release the game. Glad people can go back and play it on modern hardware atleast.

Sooo will this be the remaster that was never released and recently leaked or just an emulated n64 version?

Because I am playing upscaled with dual analog and retro achievements on my Xbox already

Oh, I forgot to mention net play is also possible!

just an emulated n64 version, with a widescreen feature. It will not be the leaked remaster version, which sucks!

This game didn't age very well as many people want to believe. most of them will play it for a few minutes to never touch it again.

They could have added a dot or a circle to the center of the screen to help target the enemies to shoot. That's one issue I'd have with it.

Wouldn't it be cool if these dumb assholes at Nintendo restocked their god damn fucking N64 controllers?

Nintendo released GCN controllers for the Switch and then never again. Nintendo is intentionally horrible with stock as it's artificial scarcity.

Well it's 16:9, higher resolution (probably 720p on switch and 4K on Xbox) and looks to be 30fps
That's lazy. It should've been 60fps.
