Hackers steal audition information from U.S. X Factor?

Well, guess what just came in the e-mail.

We are writing with regard to your registration on Fox.com to receive audition information about The X FACTOR. This week, we learned that computer hackers illegally accessed information you and others submitted to us to receive information about The X FACTOR auditions. As you may recall, the information you provided to us did not include your Social Security number or any financial information (such as bank account or credit card information), and you were not required to enter a user name or password to access our site. As a result, no financial information, Social Security numbers, or passwords were accessed by this unauthorized party. It is possible, however, that the information you did provide to us, which included your name, email address, zip code, phone number (which was optional), date of birth, and gender, may have been accessed.

We are taking this matter very seriously and took immediate steps to stop the illegal intrusion. We are also working with federal law enforcement authorities to investigate this illegal action.

While it is unlikely that this incident will impact you, we recommend you take care, when reviewing your emails, to:
Be alert for and delete any unusual or suspicious emails
Do not open emails from senders you do not know
Be cautious when opening links or attachments from unknown senders
Do not respond to emails requesting to gather your personal information
Do not use your email address as a username or password on financial accounts
Fox.com and The X FACTOR will never ask you to email personal information such as financial data, credit card numbers, Social Security numbers or the user name or passwords you use to access other websites. If you receive an email that appears to be from Fox.com or The X FACTOR asking for personal information, please forward it to [email protected] and then delete it, as it did not come from us. You can also send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

Fox and the producers of The X FACTOR take the protection of your information very seriously and regret this situation. We invite you to let us know of any inconvenience this situation may cause you, so that we may respond appropriately.

I applied for the show a while back but dad never got around to taking me to the audition, it's no grand theft credit card like PSN, but damn, my name, email address, zip code, phone number, date of birth and gender just got acessed, along with everyone else's who registered for the show. Namely E-mail. Which means spam is probly gonna start pourin in any time now.

Edit: yep, just got two spams right now advertising cheap iphones and viagra.

Hackers Gonna Hack, but I'm just hopin they don't/can't use any of that info.

Seriously, though, I was thinking of doing something by the Beatles, or maybe Billy Joel.

I've got a REALLY good voice, so I might have actually stood a chance.

And no SS numbers were stolen, though a lot else was.

On topic, though, a ton of information is getting stolen via hacking recently, and this IS yet another case.

That's usually why when I register for most anything on the internet I use an e-mail account dedicated specifically to junk e-mail stuff. I have another e-mail for official e-mail stuff (but I don't e-mail anyone so its only real use is keeping my contacts and stuff tied to it for my phone).
