GeoHot is hot once again! He has just released a video which demos his 'custom firmware'. This can be installed WITHOUT having to open up your PS3 and just by restoring a custom generated PUP file. It is also possible that this CFW may work on the PS3 slim too. Keep reading and check out the video inside!

Do we really need CFW on the PS3, the good thing about the PS3 that it wasn't touched by hackers and anyway downloading PS3 isos would be a pain since most countries have download limits.

Just because there is CFW doesn't mean you have to pirate, there could be some great hombrew made for the PS3 as pirating would actually cost a lot more than you think.

Blu Ray Disk = ££
Blu Ray Burner = £££££
Huge Downloads = Time
All together = Loss and ban

Like onthe AppleTV, most hacked things aint pirated stuff.
 
I wish him luck with the CFW; however in all honesty, all i'd really want/hope from this is to be able to play my legit PS1 and PS2 imports discs on my 60 gig PS3.

This CFW has come to fruition to re-enable OtherOS which was removed for "security reasons" in 3.21. There is no current way to use Homebrew or pirate on a PS3 but people can use OtherOS again.

It's a bit ironic that when Sony deletes Other OS to prevent people from hacking the PS3, people search for a blog about hacking the PS3 just to keep that feature.

that's only thing stopping me from getting a ps3 cos it's not hacked.

and Geohot is a great Hacker but he doesn't promote Piracy at all which I respect of him so he will try to stop pirating as much as he can, but it is bound to happen and people will be like ZOMG FR3E PS3 GAMEEEZZZ and then lose a load of money
 
If this enables OtherOS on the Slim, I will be so happy.

Their main way of telling is the firmware version if the PSP is anything to judge by, once we get 6.20CFW on PSP we will be able to access PSN for a little while at least. Sony might release another update just to block this CFW (can't update to a FW below current version)

I'm pretty sure that the PS3 is a TAD bit more difficult than a mere iPhone to crack, or it'd be already be cracked by now.

I'm with raul here, this proves nothing until it's released and confirmed to be working as it should.
 
I don't think PS3 CFW would really do anything. Sony have been quite good in regards to piracy and usually find solutions quick. And unless he comes up with a USB loading solution, no one's gonna spend the time to buy Bluray discs/burners, as well as downloading massive games. And as it was brought up before, some countries have download limits.

And yeah, I'll have to stick with raul. He just needs to release something to show the proof of concept and the speculation will quiet.

EDIT: As for homebrew, it's gonna be a while before you see anything significant coming for the PS3.
