M3 Adapter Forums
Attacked and Accounts Lost!
top_r2_c1.jpg

The M3 Adapter Forum has fallen to an attack from within. One of the current moderators deleted areas of the forum which included user posts. An old version of the board has been made available, however many accounts have been lost. Accounts made after 12/30/2008 may not be salvageable, users will need to register again, posts made after the same date are gone for good.

The attacked M3 Forum was the second iteration of the community, serving slot1 and slot2 linker owners for the past year. The board has always maintained a friendly atmosphere of helpfulness and debugging. The fact that this happened comes as a complete shock.

UPDATE

Let me explain a few things:

- No, there were no members deleted, but the board had to be reverted back to the 2008 copy, without all those new members
- I have fused the members table with the old version of the board, so all member account should still work now
- I have even merged the PM tables, so all user's PM's and drafts should still be intact
- I'm too stupid to not have automated frequent backups (yes, shoot me for that)
- The board is now upgraded to the latest phpbb version and a decent anti spam mod had been installed now, so I hope the spam will decrease a lot

Good thing that considering that this is a forum of multiple flashcarts and a lot of others things meaning that it has better security so I feel safe. "Will beat up smaller children for money!" That doesn't really go with your post.

Sadly, I agree with all the above posts. :\
Then again, I ought not to say much because I don't post as often as I used to--I don't want to be thought of as a troll (or anything at all. I'm the guy that comes and goes on GBAtemp =D )

me too, I thought that site went quiet for a long time, I've even forgotten about that forum

last time I saw it everybody was either spamming or trolling
there were pages and pages of the same topic about free pr0n or viagra, and general register @ ma site type of threads, as well as the do 3 offers so I can get free stuff

That "attack from within" probably only consisted of wiping all the threads and members made after 12/30/08 which ONLY consisted of spambots and malware advertisements

It's true that the maturity level in most of the forums has decreased, but that's not only because products become less expensive!

It's jsut that having access to the internet is a common thing today, most of our childs even have access to the internet without parental control. And a lot of people - even adults show no mannors on the internet at all.

It's sad that such childish behaviour often causes trouble like that, but you can never be sure who you trust if it comes to data. Even your best friend may be fed up with something and do stuff like that just out of a mood.

The fact is, that NOTHING's forever, ESPECIALLY on the net!

Although I'd never missuse the trust given in me, I'd rather ask to ban my account for good before something like that might happen, but I never felt being in such a position. I'm doing my moderation 'job' with greatest responsibillity. So it really makes me mad reading stuff like that.

I havent been there in a couple of years and I have even forgot my username. It was a slow site but the community was really good. I want to go back and have a look but GBAtemp is going to be hard to beat.

slighlty off topic, but maturity levels on the forum have declined as the price of flash carts have. just wanted to throw out that thought

I agree with this, strongly..

And it's a real shame to hear that something like this is possible (on any site)..
To have a member that proven himself worthy of some high position, and then in the end something like this happens!

I'm just curious but they don't have a log of which moderator does what to which/what do they? cos they could find the person who did this.

Btw do we have something like that? its not that i don't trust the mods.. i just mean its always good to have assurance right?

I'm kinda wondering why they didn't have a newer backup of the forum than the one they restored

Any mod can do serious damage to forum, but it can be all restored (at least partially) if backups are being made on regular basis..

Mods can't delete members, but they can delete threads, posts, suspend members etc. (however, as I already said, most,if not all, of these actions can be reversed)

Excellent.

I Hate M3 Ever since they had a bitch about GBA_Explorer or what ever that useful tool is called, and then moonlight, that ticked me off, having an itouch pisses me off too.

That makes it sound like someone fucking died.

Wowz. I am pretty shocked. I wonder what kind of person would do this kind of thing... Just like some people said, GBAtemp is safe. You know that no one is gonna attack us randomly. Since we can trust our Staff here. At least I think we can x3
