Listen up fellas! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lecture.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":teach:" border="0" alt="lecture.gif" />
This guide is made for newbies or people who doesn't have the knowledge of getting FTPii up and running. The sole reason of this guide is to ensure that newbies and other people understand how to use FTPii. <b>Also, this guide doesn't only show how do you use FTPii, it also shows you how to treat it like an FTP server should</b> (<b>Which, I believe isn't in the README</b>). This is also for you people who never read the readme.

Oh, and whatever you say, 0.0.15 is still the best and most stable version. The latest release and 0.0.16 dies on me.

FAQ

1) What is FTPii?
An FTP server for Nintendo Wii.

2) What is FTP?
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Transfer_Protocol" target="_blank">Wiki'd</a>

3) Why FTPii?
The reason is because, I've used FTPii to transfer my files and none of them ever goes wrong. Never ever. Plus, with the
latest version of FTPii (0.0.16), you can even dump your Wii games (DVDx must be installed)!

4) Can FTPii brick my Wii?
It won't. I promise. But the files that is transferred may. But I do not hold any responsibility if your Wii ever bricks.

5) Is it hard to setup?
No it isn't if you follow my guide. Unless you are a guy who doesn't understand English and have an IQ below than 75,
you can leave, period.

6) Why would you use FTPii if you have a card reader?
The reason is you can send files without getting your ass off the chair. With FTPii, you just have to run it on Homebrew
Channel, then leave your Nintendo Wii alone, while you transfer files from your computer to your Wii using any FTP
client.

7) What FTP client should I use?
Any FTP client is okay. But for me, I use FireFTP for Firefox. In this guide, I'll show you how to use FTPii with FireFTP and
Windows Explorer.

8) Why aren't there any pictures in your guide?
There is, but ain't many due to my brother is currently playing the Wii. But I assure you, that, it would be easy to follow,
with, or without the pictures <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. But if you want some pictures, kindly reply and request, thank you.

9) What is the recommended version?
As stated by slaphappygamer, version 0.0.16 isn't stable as 0.0.15. But nevertheless, if you want to use ftpii as a DVD
Dumper, I've included both 0.0.16 and 0.0.15 links into the the files section

10) What firmware should I be on?
Well, I haven't tested this on any other firmware, but of course, you are invited to test <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />. But I believe that it would work
on any version of firmware, or so I think.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl:" border="0" alt="rofl2.gif" /> Nevertheless, like any Wii Homebrew user should recommend, I'd say
you'd be better off in 3.2 firmware.

11) Dude, my FTP client asks for a password, but I didn't set it up?!
Simple, just press enter, or log in, or ok. Then it should work as an ukulele charm <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.

12) I don't even have an SD Card Reader to transfer ftpii to my SD Card?!
With the newest guide revision, I putted a guide on how to transfer ftpii without even an SD Card.

13) I can't connect to my ftpii?!
a)Probably it has changed its IP, check ftpii to see what IP it uses, then follow my IP change guide.
b)Test your Wii Internet Connection, see if it works, if not, go to your Router settings, and choose the broadcast to be
3, 6 or 11.

14) Any fix yet to the Wii changing IP thing?
Yes, there is. Check out the DHCP "Address Reservation" Guide

15) You said that there will be a guide on how to dump discs using ftpii!!?
Unfortunately, ftpii(latest) crashes on me Wii every time I tried to run it. Unless I found a fix, or ftpii is updated to be more
stable, or someone tells me how to do it, there won't be any disc dumping guide.

<!--sizeo:6--><span style="font-size:24pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->GUIDE<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

A few knowledge about how to use FTPii
1) First you have to make sure that the network is confirmed working by taking a look at your bottom right corner of HBC.
There are two icons, if the right one is lighted up, your network is confirmed working. It may blink, which means it is testing
the network.

2)If by any way you want to mount other devices, like USB Gecko or USB Device, you should press B when FTPii is running.
Then follow the on-screen prompts

3)If by any chance you want to exit the program, you must hold the A button until the text scrolls up and "KTHXBYE" is shown.
By then, you must release the A button, and wait for HBC to reboot.

4)You are able to transfer large files such as MP3s or Movies over FTPii.

5)If by any chance, your FTP Client asks for a password, and you didn't set one up, just press enter or ok.

6)You can erase your files on-the-fly using any FTP Client! Now, you will never need to put out your SD Card again!

7) You have to get your Wii under the same network as your computer in order to use ftpii.

<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Now, this step is semi-optional. Unless you have ftpii already on your system, then follow this step.

This step is divided into two different parts, one is "Preparations with Sendelf" and the other is with Card Reader. Follow only one that suites you.

Here's a formula:
Got SD Card but no card reader = Sendelf method
Got SD Card with card reader = Either sendelf or card reader method
Got no SD Card = Buy one fuckhead<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->(Preparations with card reader)<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
0.1) Make sure your Wii and your PC is under the same network. If not, it won't work.

1) Put FTPii into the apps folder in the root of your SD Card.
1.1)If you want to specify a password, rename the folder like this"ftpii_YourPassword". Change YourPassword to well,
your password, like this:
<img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/ftpiifolder.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

2) Launch FTPii through HBC.

3) There is supposed to be two lines of words of something like this:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->Network initialised. Wii IP address: 192.168.2.101

Listening on TCP port 21<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Take note of your Wii IP address and the TCP Port it's using (mostly 21).

Preparations without an SD Card Reader

NOTE: SINCE ftpii 0.0.16 HAS SEPERATE FOLDERS, I RECOMMEND YOU USE ftpii 0.0.15 TO TRANSFER ftpii 0.0.16 (If you want to use it of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />)
0.1) Get Sendelf
0.1.1) Get Sendelf.zip
0.1.1) Extract the "Install" to anywhere and run
0.1.2) Confirm that Installation has finished

0.2) IF you want to specify a password, rename the ftpii folder that you want to use like this, "ftpii_YourPassword", example:
<div align="center"><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/ftpiifolder.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>
0.2.1) IF you want to use ftpii 0.0.15, you must copy the folder to somewhere first, like this:
Just think that the folder is ftpii 0.0.15, also, not in the pic, but the folder is in my G: Hard drive.
<div align="center"><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/source.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>

Then, I copied the ftpii folder to my desktop, like this:
<div align="center"><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/Desktop.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>

Then I rename the ftpii folder in my desktop "ftpii_12345" so that it has a password.

1) Launch Homebrew Channel

2) From there, press Home

3) There, you should see your Wii's IP. Take note of it, and leave HBC alone. Return to the app list first.

4) Back to the comp, go to the ftpii 0.0.15 folder, right click boot.dol and click send to Wii.

5) You might see an error message with the header "ow, crap" (Unless you've run send elf before), stating "You sure that's the
right Wii IP Address?", just click ok.

6) Fill in the rest of the text box, something like this, following my picture example:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><ol type='1'><li>Wii IP : Fill in the IP that you just noted</li><li>Port : Please excuse my port number, anyway, put in 21</li><li>Protocol : From the drop-down menu, choose HB Channel</li><li>Args (Arguments) : Type in .dol</li></ol><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<div align="center"><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/sendelf.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></div>

7) Click send file!

8) ftpii should load, now do these steps:

9) There is supposed to be two lines of words of something like this:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->Network initialised. Wii IP address: 192.168.2.101

Listening on TCP port 21<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Take note of your Wii IP address and the TCP Port it's using (mostly 21).

10) Then grab any FTP client, then transfer the ftpii folder that you copied to your "apps" folder in your SD Card. For doing this
step, it is recommended to see STEP 2 if you don't have any knowledge on how to use a FTP client.

STEP 1 END!

4) There should be a folder named "sd" with a globe and an inverted T-shaped pipe on it. Double click it.

A few Q's
Why FireFTP?

There is no reason to use FireFTP if you have FileZilla, aside the fact that you don't need to install it.
Nevertheless, I prefer both of them.

Setting up FTPii

<i>You don't need FTPii to be running to set it up.</i>

1) Run Fire FTP from Tools -> FireFTP. A new tab should open up.

2) Click the second dropdown menu, and click Create an Account, like this:
<img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/Createanaccount-1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

3) Following my picture example, here's what you have to fill in:<ol type='1'><li>Account name = Any name would do</li><li>Category = fill in any name you'd like</li><li>Host = type in "YourIPAddress:TCPPort" without the quotes</li><li>Login = leave it blank</li><li>Password = Type your password IF you are using one</li></ol><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m51/afif95/Accountmanager.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
CONGRATS! YOU'RE DONE!

Transferring Files
0.1) Make sure that FTPii is up and running

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><b>From <a href="http://fireftp.mozdev.org/help.html" target="_blank">http://fireftp.mozdev.org/help.html</a></b>

Once you've connected, you'll find that the local files are on your left and the remote files are on your right. You can click on a local file and press the arrow pointing to the right to upload a file to the server.
Similarly, you can click on a file on the right side and press the arrow pointing to the left to download a file from the server to your computer.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Or you could just drag-n-drop your files from here to there and vice-versa.

<!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->FILEZILLA<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

Features and what not

1) FileZilla can multi-transfer your files (Faster Speed!) even if ftpii says it isn't able to support multi-transfer!
2) FileZilla has faster transfer speed!
3) There's 3 tabs at the bottom of FileZilla:
a) Queued files = Shows the transfer process and also the transferring process
b) Failed Transfer = This is where files that fails to transfer is shown (Never tested it yet)
c) Successful Transfers = Self-explainable

A few Q's

1) Why FileZilla?
Besides the fact that it totally owns FireFTP and WE, it is installed to your computer, meaning, no more running other sort of
applications just to get to your FTP Client!

2) It's interface is goddamn hard to use!
Use my "Setting Up FileZilla" guide!

3) Why in the whole wide world should I use FileZilla?
Read Question 1

4) System Requirements?
1)Either Windows (Vista or XP), MAC OS X, or Linux

Setting up FileZilla

1)Get FileZilla and install.
2)Run FileZilla
3)Click File - > Setup Manager:
4)A window should open, something like this:

5)Following my picture example, fill in the blanks
BEFORE:

AFTER:<ol type='1'><li>Red circle = Click rename and put in any name you'd like</li><li>Host = Put in your Wii's IP</li><li>Port = Mine's blank because 21 is the FTP server standard. Nevertheless, put in the port that ftpii is listening to.</li><li>Server type = From the dropdown menu, choose FTP - File Transfer Protocol.</li><li>Logontype = From the dropdown menu, choose Normal (Only if you set a password, if not, choose Anonymous)</li><li>User = Leave it blank</li><li>Password = Type in your password</li></ol>6)Click "OK", you've done setting up!

Transferring files using FileZilla

Should be straightforward but:

1)Click the arrow, not the icon, and choose the name that you've set for ftpii

2) You should be connected, there, just "drag n drop" files and folder onto your SD Card!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
{OPTIONAL STEPS} Miscellaneous steps

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Miscellaneous steps that is optional for you.

There are two parts:
1)Setting Static IP to your Wii (Mostly for techies)
2)Changing the IP of the ftp account of your Wii in FTP Clients (Do this only if ftpii changes it's IP Address)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

via DHCP "Address reservation" method.<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

<i>You must make sure that your WiFi router has the option to address reserve a MAC Address. If your router have not this feature, sadly, you can't set your Wii IP Address. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/frown.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="frown.gif" /></i>

Also, this method is tested with an Aztech WiFi router

0.1)Take note of your Wii's MAC Address. Go to Settings -> Internet -> Console Information.
1)Go to your router's address (Mine is 192.168.?.?, but you can't hack in, set up a password lol)
2)Go to the DHCP setting, should be somewhere in Advanced Setting
3)From there choose "Address Reservation" or something similiar.
4)Once there, choose "Add New" or something similiar.
5)Put in your Wii's MAC Address, and the IP Address you want it to be. If available, choose Enabled on the Status dropdown
menu. Click "Save" or something similiar.

Congratz! You've set your Nintendo Wii an IP address! If you want to permanently remove it, just click "Remove", if temporary, choose disable.

<!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Changing the IP of the ftp account of your Wii in FTP Clients (Do this only if ftpii changes it's IP Address)<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

If you can see from my FileZilla guide, my Wii's IP is 192.168.2.102, different from the other guide, which is 192.168.2.101.
It's because my Wii's IP suddenly changed.

Yes, sometimes your Wii changes it's IP address, the reason is unknown and totally makes your FTP Client can't connect to ftpii. Fear not! You can follow this guide!

***************
For Windows Explorer

Just put in in this into your address bar:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->ftp://YourWii'sNewIP:Port<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

So it will look like this:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->ftp://192.168.2.102:21<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
***************

***************
For FireFTP

1)Start FireFTP
2)Choose the Account that you've set for ftpii
3)Click Edit
4)A new dialog box should open
5)From there, you should change the "Host" to the IP your Wii has changed into
***************

***************
For FileZilla

1)Start FileZilla
2)Rather than clicking the arrow, this time, click the network icon (For more info, see "Transferring Files via FileZilla" step 1)
3)Again, change the Host to the new IP it's set on.
***************

After that, your FTP Client should work perfectly.

Very nice work afif95!!!!
It's very newbie proof....
And you brought a new feature to light that I was unaware of... You can dump your discs with ftpii... Nice....
I'm gonna have to research the speeds on this....

Personally I like using my USBGecko device to rip my Wii discs.... only takes about 2hrs...

nice tutorial. this is one of my favorite apps. i never have to eject my sd card. my card reader is bunk and i dont want to look for my camera to use THAT as my card reader. only to transfer a less than 1mb file. also my computer is in another room, so im walking back forth down the hall and confusing the hell out of my wife. i can just start ftpii and swap files between my computer and my wii. i recommend version 0.1.5, since i find that 0.1.6 is a bit buggy and doesnt always boot. many ftp applications can be used with this, but i like to use filezilla.

also, system of a down rocks!

Bold 1 : I haven't confirmed this yet lol. Just stating the feature.

I, too, am using version 0.0.15 . I don't think that I'll update for the time being.

I really appreciate the effort. I really need this since my cheap ass card reader is very temperamental.

Version noob-proof beta 2 is released!

Changelog:
1) A few knowledge about FTPii section is added! (May include a few features you might not know of)

2)Edited the font size to be appropriate

3)Added a few infos on the Windows Explorer section and FAQ section

4)Uploaded version 0.0.15 together with 0.0.16 in a RAR archive over MegaUpload and Rapidshare server, being that version 0.0.15 no longer exists on ftpii's homepage.

5)Added a "Thanks" section

Top man! hey seen as you done it for a "easy app" to use which has the all important info instructions on wiibrew and in the readme..
i think you may be required to tut all other "easy" important appps that many dont bother to read, what i dont get is they cant take up on boared a simple readme yet they can a nice looking tutorial, both give the same "required" info......nevermind

I'm not sure who was struggling with this...

Just to add.. filezilla is a free ftp client that does not need firefox.

Well, I struggled when I started to use it

Yeah, I know, I started with FileZilla, then knowing that I have not a single clue of what I'm doing, did a lil research and voila, resolved to Windows Explorer and FireFTP.

But then realized that FileZilla uses almost the same user interface as FireFTP

Nevertheless, version beta3 should be upped in like, a week time?

What is the password? Is it the one that is being displayed on the TV?

How is that password chosen by the Wii/Program?

How do you change the password?
