What do you think about second hand?

Sometimes i go to the second hand shop in my little town, and by some old stuff and nips
i can have in my apartment.
But as a child i hated it, because my parents bought second hand clothes for me, when all
my class mates wore new fashion clothes.
Guess money didn't grow on the trees back then

Stuff like underwear, shoes, socks, pants, t-shirts etc. i wouldn't get second-hand. Period. Also what's second-hand food? 🤢🤮
Everything else like objects, electronics, tools, vehicles and the like I'd look for stuff that's at least's in decent condition (or better if i can), then subsequent cleaning/inspection to ensure everything's fine with it..

Always on the lookout for a good second-hand toothbrush. The brand new ones are expensive as hell. :P

All joking aside, I have nothing against second-hand stuff except for mattresses. It has to be brand new. Bed bugs not welcome in my place.

If you use your second hand it´s like a virgin . Or what are we talking about here ? :rofl2:

Not nowadays. Cars Apreciate in Value. Try getting a Tesla. You can sell for much more then you got it.
They are not exactly a typical car. There's a 9-12 month wait for new Teslas, so that's a factor. And with their constant faffing about with the autopilot / FSD pricing and features, some old models have $10000 in software on top of their initial price.

I purchase most things new, except cars. The OP was a bit odd to me. When did used cars ever go OUT of fashion? Billions of people buy used cars. But yeah. Most things are new. I won't buy used electronics as there's zero warranty. Why pay say $300 for a used tv only to have it die a day after you get it, thus having to shell out another $300 for another used one? Wash rinse repeat. Or furniture. Who buys used furniture? Who the hell knows who has laid naked on it, farted on it, had sex on it, wiped boogers on it, etc. etc. Used furniture is DISGUSTING.

Re cars. The auto loan bubble in the US is probably going to be on par with the 2012 housing bubble at this rate.
For one take

Plenty more out there noting similar silliness. Only question if it will be troubled by another round of cash for clunkers being cooked up somewhere in all this.

Also re second hand electric cars... with current costs to replace batteries and lifetimes thereof then that had better be damn near scrap value.
It should also be noted software resale might not be a thing depending upon what goes

I have always bought second hand no matter how much my income has been. My Switch and A500 Mini being exceptions of course, but most of what I owned is used.

I fart naked on ALL my cupboards. Shelf by shelf, drawer by drawer.

I was obviously talking about couches, chairs, beds, and that sort of thing. Try some common sense next time you attempt some "comedy". Also, here in the US, cupboards are not furniture.

But don't you think the same could be said about the back seats of a used car?

Second hand is a paradise if you know how and where to search. We can find really good deals.

Sure, it could be. But sex in the back of a car is imo something that rarely happens outside of in the movies. Have you ever tried it? LOL! It's hard enoungh for two people to SIT in the back, let alone have sex. I also don't sit in the back of my car, I sit in the drivers seat. And if I had to sit in the back, I would be fully clothed. Being fully clothed when sitting/laying on the furniture in the privacy of my on home is not always the case. Incredibly SMALL chance of bare skin contact with someone elses sex stains in the back of my car. Incredibly LARGE chance of bare skin contact with someone elses sex stains on second hand furniture. :)

I'm happy to go second-hand with a lot of stuff, but electronics can be tricky with this because some people seem to kick their shit along the floor and play it while they eat bolognese from the way that some stuff looks on eBay. Waiting for a good find is well worth paying the lower price.

Outside of a house, a car is the most expensive thing most people will buy. Pre-pandemic, the amount you save getting used vs. new makes all of the money you will spend on electronics and gaming over your entire life look insignificant. Cars also get worse every year. More and more car systems are infected with DRM and so repairs can only be performed at an expensive, crooked and incompetent dealership, not on your own or by an independent mechanic. Combined with selling you basic car features by monthly subscription and then disabling features you paid for when you go to resell the car, it's not like you own new cars anyways. Plus reliability is way down since 2020. I also have concerns over the remote disable functionality in new cars and the tracking systems.

I'd advise against most used portable electronics, especially those with non-replaceable batteries. Refurb phones almost always come with some sort of flaw, and could have scratches on the screen that will annoy you all day. Plus the battery is probably only at half of max capacity. My used (sold as new) laptop only gets ~3 hours of battery life at max battery saver when it's advertised at 14 hours for that model. Used controllers... probably worth paying a bit extra for new, especially ones with a built-in battery.

Used non-portable electronics are fine though. Nobody cares that the top of my Xbox has scratches. Used games are fine too as long as they aren't damaged. Actually I'm not even sure if scratches matter on PS4/5 and Xbone discs because half the game is downloaded anyways.

Used cloths are fine. I wouldn't get used underwear, but just wash shirts and pants before wearing. Used furniture is also fine outside of things that could contain bed bugs.

Then what the fuck are they?

Cupboards in the US are usually referred to as places like "the kitchen cupboard" where boxed/dry/canned goods and dishes/glassware are stored. Or "the bathroom cupboard" where toiletries are stored. I don't know anyone here that says "Can you put this in the bedroom cupboard for me?" or "The remote is in the living room cupboard." Dresser, hutch, desk, drawer, stand, shelf, etc. But genreally not "cupboard" here for those types of items.
