Hey all. So as some of you might know some of the music for the S3&K portion of Sonic Origins has been changed to the prototype songs and it's less than desirable for a lot of people.

Would restoring the original tracks be possible with a mod, like with the switch version of Super Meat Boy?

Edit: We've got a mod!

To restore the original Sonic 3 tracks on the Switch version just drop the two files from https://gamebanana.com/sounds/61710 into
atmosphere/contents/01009FB016286000/romfs/raw/sound/
Here’s the mediafire link taken from the Gamebanana page:

As usual, it will depend on the file formats/how they're processed (e.g. checksums).

On the PC, the RSDK game files are quite small, which makes me think the audio files used in game are stored in the 'sound' folder as acb/awb files.

This may be both good and bad because they seem to be encrypted (or at least the tools I've used can't read them), but it could make modding the Switch version easier if/when these are cracked if the same files used on the PC build are the same on the Switch.

Fantastic, exactly the sort of breakdown I was hoping for. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I would also love a music mod.
It does seem like something LayeredFS could come to the rescue with.
In my own experience trying to fix the music in SoR4, I can day, it is definitely not a straightforward endeavor.

On YouTube theres some work for the pc version so a switch version could happen in a week or something,i really hope that happens because for real the "new" ost is horrible specially ice cap,i can't believe someone was ok with that

The 'new' soundtrack actually dates back to Sonic 3's development and was likely the intended music prior to Michael Jackson's involvement.

Supposedly the Sonic 3 soundtrack has been giving Sega's legal team Hard Times and the reason for S3's 'neglect' in recent years, so they probably decided to just replace it since they're now just using audio files and not emulation.

I find it funny how everybody has an issue with the music while I can't even get past the part that the screen is just really dark while playing them. its like the VC dark filter all over again

Does anyone know what tools were used to mod the game? I'd like to try and make a custom acb/awb but so far all I've accomplished is a literal pain in my ears because it doesn't seem to be decrypting properly.

It's not even the proto music, it's the PC release music. The proto music is actually a decent alternative but I'm not going to lie, the music that they used is actually grating to listen to, especially next to the original tracks

Tried this and opened up the sound menu in the museum to test, but the songs still sound like the normal ones included with the game?

Sorry to ask, but how do I find that file directory on the SD card for my switch.
