This is great news for customers, but what does it mean for the entire world?

Can Apple theoretically make USB-C iPhones for the EU countries while everywhere else stays as is?

In a way, that would make iPhones built for the EU market more valuable (who knows how much) just because it has a USB-C.

Could they? Yes. Will they? No, it's a complete waste of resources and manufacturing to make two SKUs where the only difference is a connector. Once they're forced to make these USB-C iPhones, that will be the standard.

Companies which make identical electrical products need to make slight changes per region due to their voltages (120/240) so it's a possibility for Apple, but improbable. It's just a one thing they need to change.

Apple never added SD Card support (😐) and they got away with that.

Except they don't, most modern electronics these days are simply dual voltage, they simply slap controllers that can handle both voltages without issue because it's more cost effective that way. You can check any modern charger or console even, you'll see the adapters and PSUs provided support both.

It'll be the same with the iPhone.

Some iPads already have USB C charging, MacBooks have supported it for a while, and rumours of USB C iPhones have flown around for a while now. I don't think they will half-ass this, its only a matter of time until they kill Lightning.*

*in my opinion

Why change something .. yes, it's a matter of convenience, however, I thought in Apple the entrance to the charger will always remain the same and will be a feature of the brand

Does lightning have any perks that USB-C lacks? It was a tissue thin veneer but back during the iphone 4 days with the fat old connector then they did have extra functionality over USB https://pinoutguide.com/CellularPhones-A-N/iPhone_connector_pinout.shtml

All that said what has Apple ever done for us?
imagine if lighning has extra security to prevent jailbreaking that USB-C doesn't thats the only reason why i think apple's been dragging their heels for so long

On the one hand, I like that Apple is finally being made to stop using Lightning and move to a more universal character part.
On the other hand, I dislike the EU and the massive overreach that it really is. The fact that the EU's decisions affect everyone outside the EU is something I wish would stop happening.

It's literally pins in a different shaped hole, there's nothing technical that can be done with one but not the other.

You think the EU is bad for that, just wait until you hear about the USA :rofl2:
My grievances with the EU can also be applied to the US. The fact that US-based companies and laws are enforced on people outside of the US is terrible. The fact that the US can and does arrest people outside of the US for these laws is a problem.
