Hello GBAT!

I am trying to accomplish something very specific, so I figured I would make a post in deference to those of you here with more experience on the challenges involved to save myself some heartache. Any and all help is appreciated!

I want to play the AGTP Translation of Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer for SFC through WiiWare VC Injection.

I want to go the VC route as opposed to homebrew emulator because it seems to me that homebrew (after thorough testing) does not seem to reliably support either the Classic controllers or Brook's wireless USB adapter for pairing other controllers, where authentic Wii titles (including WiiWare) do support both of these without issue. While I have GameCube adapters for various controllers that presumably *will* work fine with homebrew, I would prefer to go the Wii Remote compatible route if possible, for sake of personal convenience.

If I understand correctly, what I should aim to do is use the latest VC Injector tools available and try swapping out a patched version of the above-mentioned ROM with a near-compatible existing SFC/SNES VC title. Since there is a Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer Wii JP VC release, I assume this is the best candidate. (thanks for all the resources @SaulFabre !)

I have done a lot of VC injection for 3DS, and greatly benefited from the myriad available tools, packs and lists of prepatched injected VC titles. It seems to me that there aren't many (any?) similar archives of prepatched content for Wii VC. If I am wrong about that, please let me know!

In approaching this problem I see a lot of BIG ALL CAPS WARNINGS about following correct procedure so as not to brick the Wii etc. (I do have Priiloader etc. set up) which scares me a bit off wanting to try this myself, but I am still willing to do the work necessary to make it happen. I would greatly appreciate any insight into the best available tools to do so, since information is often out of date and conflicted.

So: in 2022, what is the best way for me to tackle this problem? I'm not asking anyone provide me any materials not allowed in forum posts, but any and all help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone with experience with this specific process was able to talk me through this over DM/Discord/etc. I would also greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Link for the English translation patch made by Aeon Genesis (AGTP): https://www.romhacking.net/translations/483/

You could try following my tutorial for inject SNES games on official Wii VC WADs here:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/virtual...system-snes-wii-vc-injection-tutorial.543469/

Another possible alternative if the above doesn't work, which consists in making a SRL for your game running on Snes9x GX/RX/TX:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...ls-of-your-favorite-retro-games-d-wii.602640/

Hope these info help ;)

EDIT: Considering that you have read the warnings before doing these stuff, i want to tell a thing: if you do all the steps on my tutorials correctly you shouldn't have too much trouble with your Wii and/or your inject (except on those cases of the ROM doesn't load or play because of being incompatible with the WAD or emulator you're using).

Why you can't use your classic controller with the homebrew emulators? I can use mine just fine
i think main reason of people preferring VC instead of emulators is because official Nintendo emulators are so optimized for run on Wii, rather than most homebrew emus.

Honestly, i use VC for some games that i know will run on Wii via official emulation, and for these games that can't be run on VC (such Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Land, Banjo-Kazooie), i use homebrew emulators.

I'm referring to the classic console controllers (eg. NES Classic, SNES Classic), not the Wii Classic controller.

These (as well as the 8BitDo and Brook adapters) do work in original titles for me, but do not work in homebrew.

Oh I see, this is really unfortunate. Have you tried every option? Oficial Retroarch/Retroarch Hexaeco? The new version of Snes9x RX ( 5.0 ) seems to offer more controllers compatibility.

Anyway, sorry I can't help more.
