This is probably a dumb question to ask here, but i've got to the point where i have to start deleting games i've already played to completion to install new ones, and i'm afraid i could lose my progress when doing so.
I use checkpoint to backup my saves but so far i've used it to restore them when i fuck up, sort of like a second layer of savescumming.

Can i delete my games thru normal means, having my save data untouched if i ever reinstall? Will checkpoint work for that? or there's something i should keep in mind when uninstalling or reinstalling? I assume it's gotta be the same version of the game, but beyond that i dunno. Any advice?

You will want to backup and save ALL data thats important to you. If you reinstall a title thats been removed. It will overwrite all data including save data.
what other data could there be? im mostly talking about installed .cia games, so there's no .ini files, roms, or anything like that involved in this case. If there's anything else i might be missing please let me know as i don't know.

I just tried deleting mario tennis like WG481 told me to, and i'll try reinstalling and checking if the data can be recovered later, i assume it'll work just fine but if not i wouldn't mind losing my progress on that game

Sorry. Just meant if said game happens to use maybe both save data and extra data. Those are going to be the two important ones to check.

Pardon? reinstalling a title will overwrite the save data, ive seen it enough on here with people complaining. You import checkpoint once a new dummy save is made after reinstall
Yeah, I know.
Extra data shouldn't be a worry, since it's just DLC and like load time stuff a game creates. Nothing really happens in ext. data.

Except for Minecraft N3DS edition world saves iirc. If you wanna feel extra safe, I guess try occasionally backing up extra data too sometimes?

There's a built option on the 3ds. Beside the launch button there should be an arrow and when you click that arrow there should be an option to backup a save file

Holy crap ext data has a use?
To be honest, Minecraft on the 3DS isn't even worth saving the extra data unless you did something really cool. Out of all of the Legacy Minecrafts, 3DS sucks.

i do believe that the whole monster hunter series also uses extra data instead of the save data for where it saves its saved content to.

Well I kinda like the N3DS edition... Though yeah if I could play the XB360 version on the go, I'd probably play that instead.

Pocket with a controller, although sorta crappy, is still the closest I could get.
I have Switch, maybe I should get Java.
Minecraft is weird.

I mean, the Steam Deck could run both Bedrock (like the NEW switch version, not the old legacy version) and Java, since it's a whole as PC but portable like a GameGear. Sure, Minecraft isn't on Steam (it'll probably get on there before i die lmao) you could just install Windows, or if it's possible via SteamOS, just gnab the Linux version of Minecraft, then add it to your library as a Non-Steam game. Not sure how you'd use Steam to bypass Minecraft's own launcher.
