Nintendo Switch firmware update 12.0.0 available for download

A new update has been detected! Nintendo has just put out a system software update for the Nintendo Switch, which brings the console up to official firmware version 12.0.0. This time around, we have an actual reason as to what this update entails: a “rare” save backup error had been resolved. The changelog mentions nothing else, despite it being an update from 11.0.1 to 12.0.0. If you haven’t already learned by now, don’t update your hacked systems until you have the all-clear from established scene hackers.

Ver. 12.0.0 (Released April 5, 2021)
We fixed the issue with the save data backup feature, where in rare cases, the automatic backup of save data is interrupted if a communication error occurs during completion of the save data backup process.

for all these bugs they're fixing, i still can't seem to figure out why they're not patching out the biggest and worst switch bug of all time-
the lack of themes

All of these posts about "Wheres tha themes??!?!?!" How many other Nintendo consoles or handhelds offered themes & why do people feel themes are something Nintendo is suddenly going to start caring about? It would be very much out of the norm for them to include anything else other than a couple more color choices. For the record... PS5 doesn't even have themes or allow for a personal background image either.

The 3DS basically. I kind of hope they add them but I don't think they will.

Exactly my point. One. And even then they really didn't release much. It took almost 4 years to even get the theme support, then they only ever released them in batches over a period of 3 months then quit.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And here we go again ... cat and mouse ... and for what. Nintendo and updates without deep meaning.
But we have grown accustomed to that over the year now haven't we...

So you'd rather them not patch the listed bug, so if/when if ever effected you regardless of it's rarity... you can say "OMFG!!! Why didn't they just simply patch the known bug!!!"? What exactly is cat and mouse about it? I don't think they ever update for no reason whatsoever.

well, the 3ds had themes, yes, and i'm not saying at all that every console should have them. but the switch has an entire settings tab dedicated to themes, with two themes in it. now, since there's so few, they could have put them in settings > system > light/dark mode, but instead they put them in settings > themes. and they knew that people loved the 3ds themes, so they really dug a hole for themselves when they put a "themes" tab in the root of the settings menu. and all that aside, themes for the switch would be nice to have

Fixing a bug is great. I never said them fixing it was a bad thing in itself.
But a major release this should not be in a single shape or form. Everyone with some experience developing will tell you that. As how you treat milestones says a lot about future intent.

What happens in most major jumps is that Nintendo changes stuff around (keys and the like). That is the cat and mouse part ....
And of course is no more or less than to be expected. (Not that I care that much as I have a superbanned and vanilla system)

I own 430-ish games legit on Nintendo Switch so I can tell you how cumbersome some things are in that regard.

But it's a bit of a let down Nintendo still has not done anything in the regard of themes. Basic White and Basic Black have never seen any other options join them. While the community has shown there is so much potential. And don't even get me started on other integrations that should happen (whether it be folders .... which I doubt we will ever see officially, whether it be a Discord Rich Present option (homebrew exists I know), or even an account like API (even if it was read only)

Themes would be a nice feature. But i don't get it why the ppl want folders? I mean, it makes no sense imo.

I feel the opposite. Themes to me are for the most part usually fugly. Not to mention, what do people do when they boot up their system? Stare at the theme for 30 minutes before selecting a game and playing it? Folders on the other hand are VERY useful for anyone with a large collection. TONS of games on my 3DS. If I want to play Super Mario 3D Land, I can simply go to the "S" folder, rather than scrolling through page after page after page after page looking for it.

I updated because CFW is a bonus and I'm patient but wow, this update must do something!

I can't even get into my eMMC or boot stock from Hekate. Had to disable autoRCM for now. Jig-liiiife!

Also, hello all. Long time no see.

I'll stick with 11.0 SX OS until a compelling reason comes to update, which actually benefits me. Don't care about synced saves because I dont go online anyway.

I'm one of the few mods that hardly suspends. I however talk aggressive when it's to shutdown the little kiddies that don't behave. I already started seeing the typical behavior already starting up.

And no, I hardly ever delete posts about me, heck I don't even touch reports about myself I get. It's a violation of trust of the users if I would touch a report I've gotten on myself.
Don't worry Liny you are definitely 1 of the most nicest mods here

I accidentally updated, but I don't use Custom Firmware or play pirated games? Am I in trouble?

if you intend to at some point, probably not I'd imagine. if you own a Mariko unit, good luck finding a modchip. I'm not part of the scene either, but I do occasionally help with things involving converting or compressing games. I know how to do that, because I've downloaded all 143 games I own, and I've done that to all of them. I have an exploitable system that I've left unplugged and powered off, since I don't play any pirated games on my systems. I'll probably update when I go back to playing bravely default 2, but just my two Mariko systems. ;)

No you're a regular user you have to keep updating your system to play online no worries. I'm going to update my switch lite today.

For my CFW I'm going to stay on 11.0.1 for a long time there isn't any games that are coming out right now that caught my eye. Hopefully Skyward Sword will work on 11.0.1 if not I can always play the one on Wii

I ran 11.x CFW emunand on 1 SD card and OFW on another sdcard. If I update my OFW (because I currently am playing Monhun with my friends on OFW), will I be able to boot back to my CFW?
