Nintendo Switch firmware update 12.0.0 available for download

A new update has been detected! Nintendo has just put out a system software update for the Nintendo Switch, which brings the console up to official firmware version 12.0.0. This time around, we have an actual reason as to what this update entails: a “rare” save backup error had been resolved. The changelog mentions nothing else, despite it being an update from 11.0.1 to 12.0.0. If you haven’t already learned by now, don’t update your hacked systems until you have the all-clear from established scene hackers.

Ver. 12.0.0 (Released April 5, 2021)
We fixed the issue with the save data backup feature, where in rare cases, the automatic backup of save data is interrupted if a communication error occurs during completion of the save data backup process.

I am using Atmosphere (via Hekate) on a Mariko set with SX hardmod.

Need to play MHR online and therefore updated sysnand - it won’t boot anymore. My bad as I thought booting into sysnand will have no problem. Emunand have no issues booting though.

Can we NOT turn in this to a fucking SX vs. AMS thread? I will start suspending people if their only goal is to derail threads in to that. And no, I'm not kidding. I got a list of people in my head who does it all the time.
Can you stop being so hecking aggressive in your post? You're literally the most aggressive mod on this forum.
And if someone points your crap out, you delete their posts and ban them for a week.

I'm one of the few mods that hardly suspends. I however talk aggressive when it's to shutdown the little kiddies that don't behave. I already started seeing the typical behavior already starting up.

And no, I hardly ever delete posts about me, heck I don't even touch reports about myself I get. It's a violation of trust of the users if I would touch a report I've gotten on myself.

So the one ban I had wasn't by you?
(Seriously though I have no clue who actually banned me that time, maybe I could be wrong, in that case sorry)

If you're gonna be patronising you should probably get it right tbh. Keys aren't the only thing, new firmware versions can come with new functions and if new games start using them they won't work on older firmwares and can't be modified to do so. That doesn't happen as often as new keys but it does happen.
actually read what was quoted, hackable switches are not able to get updates to block the exploits aka sxos, as stated in my reply to why.

the only method nintendo can try block is by its keys, but these are easily dumped.

drm can be put in place for games but that is not what was said, this thread is about the fw update and one asking if fw updates mean its to block sx os...... and its not.

tho if sx os is blocked or not maybe down to themselves if they release future support or not.

Ok your post wasn't very clear and I did my best to interpret it, guess I got it wrong. But I think you might have misinterpreted the post you replied to too.
Nintendo seem to have found a pretty successful non-software method to prevent SX OS updates, but time will tell about that one.

can't update from jail
problem is gary, mac and chen are just the front men, not the ones who created sx os, hence how 11.0 came out.

what could be possible now is if no resellers or distributor and sales, then its likely support will end if no one is getting paid.

You'll have to wait for Hekate to release a version compatible with 12.0.0 . You can keep an eye on the github page. It normally doesn't take long. Replace the Hekate version that's on your SD card with the new one (once it releases) and you should be good to go.

Alright, we are almost 4+ YEARS into the Switch's Life Span and almost nothing has been added that is of major significance. This Operating system should be so stable at this point any dying marriage could be saved. I'm pretty much-losing hope in terms of any real features being added.

I am already starting to think that most of the wanted features will become Switch "Pro" exclusives

That's what I was thinking as well. Like this, we get it with the switch pro or we don't get it at all. But we aren't really sure what the "Switch Pro" will be like. Knowing Nintendo over the last few years they seem to do the bare minimum when it comes to hardware and software. I think the most likely thing is that it will be an Overclocked X1 or some form of it. I would love to see a pretty powerful switch with 4k and DLSS but I just don't see it happening.

the UI allows you to select and play video games. On Nintendo's eyes the job is done.
