Elden Ring Leaked Trailer, More Stadia Fails and Switch Pro OLED Rumors - Tempcast #29

tempcast-169-logo-png.246523

In this week's short episode we discuss the leaked Elden Ring trailer which has been circulating the web recently, and give our thoughts about the brief glimpses of gameplay seen. We also talk about the reports of Google paying supposedly up to tens of millions of dollars for AAA games to be on their streaming service, Stadia, and whether or not that was a good business decision. And finally, we discuss yet another report from Bloomberg about the supposed Switch upgrade, with new details about Samsung supplying 720p OLED screens for the system.

Strongly dislike rumors being given so much attention on this website. You're contributing to the invevitable gamer babyrage when the lackluster switch pro is eventually announced. Who could have seen this coming, right?

I have a oled vita. It’s got the blotching that oled screens are known for. Can’t really see it during gameplay unless it’s all black.

Yeah, me too. Hopefully *if* a Switch pro does exist and has OLED, that problem won't be as prevalent as the Vita.

Honestly, it’s not that distracting, but I kind of want to replace the screen. Might a good project. The silver bezel has some wired chipping. Kind of like a cat was gnawing at it. I was able to smooth it out a bit.

OLED looks amazing but doesn't last.

Might be hard to find one the right size and voltage.

By the way if anyone knows how to connect a Vita to psn while avoiding updating pronts it will make hacking mine much easier.

I want to say first that I'm not trying to defend stadia, or change anyones opinion of it. There really is no point at this point. It's the newest trend to hate it. Well, that and cyberpunk.

But what kills me is when people, like in this tempcast talk shit about it without doing any homework of their own. I say that because you guys regurgitated the same false information that I have seen posted here many times. That after you buy your game you then have to pay a monthly fee to play it. All you have to do is go to the stadia paige and you see that you only have to pay a monthly fee if you want to play in 4k. 1080 is free.

So you give a negative opinion, the biggest drawback everyone has with the service without even trying it out first. Hell, you guys couldn't even bother to look at their FAQ. This makes me wonder about the other reviews on gbatemp. You guys are better than that.

If you don't like the game service that's fine. I want to hear what you don't like about it. You can't rightly do that if the farthest you are willing to go is just repeat what other people have said about it. There are a lot of people that rely on what you tell them to make informed decisions about what games, and ways to play them with when spending their money. You owe them that much.

The fact that any shitty computer with a good internet connection can play AAA games for just the cost of a game is fucking impressive. And for those who say it must be unplayable has not tried it before. Cyberpunk runs like butter on my old ass laptop through stadia, but the PC version on my gaming rig has slow downs every few minutes.

If you look at my other posts and comments you will see that I never post such negative things like I have here. But ever since I listened to this tempcast I really felt like this needed to be said.

Google also ignored how slow Internet speeds are in the USA. They should have included three months of Stadia for free with their internet service.

I'll cop to the mistake about the monthly subscription fee. Like you said, it's information that's been thrown around very liberally, and when you hear something repeated enough, you don't think to fact check it. That's totally my fault. But as for the thing about not liking it as a game streaming service, I don't think any of us said that, because, you're right, none of us have tried it.

We were making fun of the bad business decisions Google made. Going for such an aggressive rollout on a new technology with niche appeal was a bad decision. The messaging was bad. Paying tens of millions for ports was certainly a bad idea. From every perspective except a technological one, Stadia was a failure, and a spectacularly public one, which is why it's fun to make jokes about. I've taken similar potshots at the Vita and the Wii U, but those are two of my favourite consoles. Hell, you mentioned Cyberpunk--I liked that game too, but it doesn't mean I don't find it funny when CDPR falls on their face in front of the whole industry.

Seriously though, thanks for your post. It's great to get feedback that's well thought out and clearly explained. I do appreciate it, and I'll try harder in the future to fact check stuff.
