I'm currently looking at buying a unpatched switch. The serial number checks out, 4x zeros in the serial. I used these sites to confirm that number1 number2. But the firmware is at 10.0.3 and the seller said it was purchased midway through 2019. Using the switch guide, said only consoles purchased before July of 2018 can installed CFW regards of their firmware. Is it possible with this Switch to install CFW? Or should I not buy it?

Thank you and excuse the basic question.
I think you mis-read that. Only models produced before July 2018. It may have sat in store for months/ a year before being actually purchased.

First of all, do not use any websites to confirm serial numbers. While you do use the serial number to confirm if it is unpatched or not, the websites are usually outdated. Only ever use the stickied thread found in this forum as a point of reference when it comes to serial numbers. After you have double checked with that thread and you still have doubts about the console, whatever guide you read is either lying to you or you misinterpreted the statement about July 2018. Patched consoles were only first witnessed after July 2018 but unpatched consoles were still in circulation. Therefore it is still possible to buy an unpatched console after July 2018.

That is a good point and just basic logic. I was wondered about the firmware, but I guess that isn't a problem. Thank you for the reply.

I'm using the main guide that is always suggested, right? The homebrew guide.

I reviewed the guide a few times. I believe this is how I should proceed, because the Switch in question is definitely unpatched and will be safe to use. Does this look like I am understanding everything correctly?

-Check RCM to see if we can use the fusee-gelee trick
-Use Fusee-gelee to push desired content
-Backup of NAND & keys
-Use the custom DNS to stop those pesky updates
-Boot into Atmosphere
-Create emuMMC

Thank you for the help!

There are so many guides for Switch hacking that I don't know of one that would be considered the main one. In fact, whatever one you believe to be the "main one" may not be what any people recommend if it really states that all consoles made past July 2018 are patched.

I should also clarify 3 things stated in the guide which may not be as necessary as you believe (further reinforcing the point that this guide is clearly not written well). First, you do not need to backup your keys especially if you have an eMMC backup. All keys except the BIS keys are the same across all consoles and BIS keys are only useful for hacdiskmount. Secondly, you do not have to use a custom DNS or anything really to stop updates. Simply not having any Wi-Fi settings achieves the same effect. Lastly, I'd recommend creating emuMMC before booting into Atmosphere.

Excuse the lack of information. I was referring to the BIS keys, but after looking into HacDiskMount, I'm not sure what I would need that for. Is it like a partition manager for backup processes?

I am kind of worried about getting into the RCM. How likely is it to break or fry your switch grouding the pin 10? If you just follow basic instructions. It shouldn't be hard?

I am interested in trading between my consoles like Pokemon. My current unmodded Switch and then this future modded Switch. Is that not a possibility? Also, I will need to update the firmware in the future. How should I do that without using Wi-Fi? Dropping the files onto the SD card? Thank you!

hacdiskmount is a tool that is quite outdated by today's standards. Its function is to mount your eMMC for you to dump, restore, or explore it but aside from restoration, the tool is very niche. Dumping the eMMC should only be done with Hekate and exploration is meant more for developers. Restoration is the only use you may ever find because although Hekate can also restore eMMC backups, if you do not have one, there is a way to utilize hacdiskmount in such a way to recover from a brick without an eMMC backup. However that is worst case scenario and as long as you have an eMMC backup, it should never come to that.

The chances of damaging pin 10 is very low especially if you immediately enable AutoRCM with Hekate once you are successful. As the name implies, AutoRCM removes the need for manually entering AutoRCM by "bricking" the console. In other words, the console will only boot into RCM until AutoRCM is removed. Do not fret though if you wish to boot OFW as Hekate can allow you to boot a semi-stock option that has not caused any bans thus far.

Trading is not an issue as long as you meet the other requirements such as being on the same firmware and game version. You can also update your firmware offline with homebrew applications like ChoiDujourNX or Daybreak.

Hi people I am new here and I hope this is the right place to ask for help, if not please just move my post or delete it ;) or should I just start a new topic with a Problem like this?
I really need some help I´m very frustrated right now I have a non-patched switch and used sx pro with fat32 SDcard over the last 2 years without problems, Im on 11.0.0 with emunand CFW and it wont do anything after nintendo logo logo then blackscreen , I can start my switch when I dock it and then holding power und + (then in starts in ofw 11.0.1 with no problems, but must be docked) but Im not able to boot in CFW anymore just the sxos menu where i can choose to start CFW or OFW and some options. I did hardresets and put a new dowloaded boot.dat on my sd card, even a new licence.dat i manged to get today because sxos homepage was available. Everytime I boot in CFW Blackscreen after Nintendologo I used it without any Problem and next evening I had this Blackscreen Thing, did nothing no updates no games installed it just happend over night -.- Battery is not the newest anymore but it is okay. Now I formated my sdcard (not quickformat, and in fat32 ) and put atmosphere on it fresh installation. used this guide switch.homebrew.guide (with emunand) So here is the Point where I really dont know what to do next because i get blackscreen after trying launch atmosphere (seems to be the same problem as before with sxos and undocked switch) Also tried another sdcard with same setup ... same problem -.- What could this be?

I used sdsetup com site for SD setup

Is there something about my switch hardware that could make this Problem appear? Or maybe I should restore my nand? But would I be able to start OFW in docked mode with a broken nand? I dont know what it could mean that the console needs to be docked and holding power and press + to get it started for OFW… just unsure what might be broken and i googled a lot but could not find someone with exact same problem.

I would think my switch is broken but if I start in in docked mode with OFW (and pressing+) EVERYTHING just works fine If anyone out there is able to help me i would be so happy. I asked in gbatemp discord but no answers hope it is okay to post here as well.

For starters, it is not a hardware issue if the console can boot normally. And if you can even boot other CFW, then its not an SD card issue. Lastly, since both Atmosphere and SX OS fail to launch your emuMMC partition, then all signs point to an issue originating from your emuMMC.

Now if you have a backup of your emuMMC, now is the time to restore it. If you do not have one, then it might be impossible to recover your emuMMC. The only other thing you can try which you haven't tried yet is trying to repair the emuMMC with Hekate. If you go to Migrate emuMMC which can be found under emuMMC, there should be an option to migrate/repair it. Once you do that, try booting Atmosphere and/or SX OS via emuMMC. If it still does not boot, then your emuMMC is no longer functional and has to be remade.

Thanks so much Draxzelex for answering
Just tried the repair funtion, but also blackscreen -.- .
After formating my sdcard yesterday, I created a new emuMMC with hekate because I had the mood to do "everything new" xD to make it work again ^^ did not even tried to migrate my old sxos emuMMC ;) Im not really sure about how the whole emuMMC thingi works, but i have a backup of my nand (clean nand backup before installing sxos) not of my emunand. the situation that I probably have the same problem with sxos and now atm (with new created emuMMC) and even when trying to boot undocked (!) is making me so unsureif its a bigger Problem here (sd card reader maybe ?). Sorry noob here -.-

Is there any way to sort the homebrew apps in the menu? one of the most used nro's is all the way in the back/right.

Hey y'all, I'm trying to run BOTW in Atmosphere and it will not boot, just keeps going to "need to run update". I have updated the game in system memory, moved the game to my sd card, and then when I I boot in CFW it says I need to update again. Any theories?

Make sure you update with the correct region/ Build ID as the original game first off, and maybe there is a newer update avalible for it. And since you moved it, try install update for it again, even though that should not matter.
btw 1.6 is the most current update for it.

Game saves are on the switch itself, not the sd card. If both your Switches are non hacked OFW, you can back up your game saves to the cloud. De-register both the Switches, then swap and re-register to new user. Then download the game saves from the cloud.

You each can backup to each own cloud, you both have stock switches, so you both have access to cloud saves. I don't know if he can log onto your switch with his account without you de-registering it first.
