Hey,

I've been offered a banned slim PS4 for 105 EUR/130 USD. I have no idea what firmware it's on and I can't check before buying, so for the discussion I would assume it's non-hackable.

I consider buying it and plan on getting a bunch of games on disc t play. I'm not interested in buying digital games and I'm not interested in playing online. Would that work?

Is that price too high for a banned PS4?

is there a way to update games on a banned console?
Yeah the same way as everyone else. Banned console only means you cannot play online with PSPLUS. If you don’t have PSPLUS you can still update games directly from UI.

Worst case scenario you can now use OSMK method and orbis patches site to update via USB too.

My Google search on installing updates has been very inconclusive, unfortunately. Most people claim it's impossible, but the phrasing leads me to believe most of these people misunderstand the question and mistake that with buying games from PSN and/or don't have first hand experience. On the other hand most of these consoles get banned because they were part of a game sharing network, so cutting access to updates would make sense in a twisted kind of way.

I hoped someone with experience with banned consoles and original games would enter this thread and give a definitive reply. Not getting game updates for originals definitely wouldn't be worth it to me.

is "banned ps4" automatically equals "ps4 jailbroken" ?
because this OSMK method requires running homebrew on the ps4
