This is somewhat modding adjacent, but I figured I’d ask. I have physically decimated what I believe is a first edition switch. However, what I understand to be the internal memory chip is still unscathed. Is there a way for me to dump the contents and recover them somehow?

My switch hasn't been online for nearly two years now, I don't think it's been online since I first installed CFW.

I recently upgrade to all the latest CFW and offline updated to the latest official 11.x software.

What would be the best things to do (clear caches, install emunand etc.) before attempting to get my switch back online?

Cheers,
Brad.
Restore a clean full eMMC backup that was made before ever running CFW or homebrew.

You have 3 options:
  1. Installing the homebrew menu itself as an .NSP file which you can find here
  2. Installing each individual homebrew application as an .NSP file which requires conversion using this tool
  3. Launching the homebrew menu via title override meaning usually holding R over a title (e.g. a digital or physical game)

There is no news nor anyone working on an exploit for Mariko consoles. Someone may end up releasing something in the near or distant future but right now, there is no guarantee there will ever be a way to run Atmosphere without a modchip.

Sorry to ask a question in the NOOB PARADISE THREAD!
I wasn't saying that to you in particular but rather in general. I just wish information like the one I shared was more commonplace.

This is somewhat modding adjacent, but I figured I’d ask. I have physically decimated what I believe is a first edition switch. However, what I understand to be the internal memory chip is still unscathed. Is there a way for me to dump the contents and recover them somehow?
I don't believe so but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

You're better off getting an unpatched Switch in that case or even a patched Switch on a firmware no higher than 4.1

heya, i'm a bit anxious of getting banned since I still wanna play splatoon, and hacked my switch a few weeks ago. I used cfw on my sysnand instead of emunand to emulate amiibos for extra stuff and old games like mario party cuz I'm a cheapskate, and I heard that if you do that, even if I stayed on airplane mode the entire time (which I didn't), it still logs what I did, and the second I go online I'll get banned. Is that true, and if so, how can I prevent this from happening?

While it is true that the system logs everything, whether or not you will immediately get banned is up to Nintendo not us. Historically speaking, "instabans" are a myth and instead bans are handed out in waves typically. There has not been a banwave in a while but that doesn't mean Nintendo has stopped banning people. The only way to realistically "prevent" a ban is by restoring a clean eMMC backup made before ever running any CFW or homebrew. Without one, you risk getting banned when going online.

Alright, so what you're saying is I have to revert everything to when I didn't boot up any CFW? That's gonna be difficult considering the folder I put my backup in got mysteriously nuked without me knowing. Would completely deleting everything from my SD card and going back online to redownload all my old stuff work? It'd be pretty tedious and I'd lose all my progress, but that's better than getting banned for life.

No because as I previously stated, the system tracks everything. Without a clean eMMC backup, there is no way to remove those traces without the console realizing they were removed.

So that means I'm shit outta luck then? Damn, that sucks. Thanks for replying quickly though, I guess I'm not playing online or buying anything ever again. It's just splatoon anyway. One more thing though, is my account banned as well, and will I still be able to update stuff like smash ultimate or the system for the new DLC or is that a no go?

Your account is not banned nor is it at risk of being banned because unlike a console, you can just make another one for free. And depending on the type of ban, you may or may not be able to update your games. Lastly, I should make it clear that you are not yet banned. You have to go online to get banned and even then, it is not a guarantee. You may get banned, you may not get banned, or you may get banned in a year. By staying offline completely, it is the same thing as being banned. Actually it may be worse because even if you're banned, you can still use non-Nintendo online utilities such as FTP.

This is a bit of a weird question in regards to sysNAND backup ... I did a factory reset on my switch and then
made a clean sysNAND backup from Hekate using a Jig, but noticed that the backup would not compress,
so after using CFW for a while I decided to restore my clean sysNAND but not before editing the backup and
erasing the USER partition, basically it was already empty with a bunch of empty folders, so I did a clean
on it and brought the empty folders back, etc., then restored it, then did another factory reset, and a new
sysNAND backup which now compresses to about 2.5 GB (on firmware 11.0.1) ...

This shouldn't cause any issues with any bans, assuming I don't go online and restore my backup when needed ?

Damn you still messing with that, lol. I think you like tinkering more than playing the games....Ok good luck

When people run emuNAND and use their sysNAND to go online, what would stop Nintendo or maybe it doesn't
from running a scan on your SD card noticing unauthorized title id's being installed and reporting that,
ending up with a ban anyways ...

Haha yeah I like tinkering for sure, as long as everything works when I want to play in between breaking stuff :)

I mean factory resets don't prevent bans in fact, people have already been banned after performing a factory reset. That being said, manually removing files from even supposed clean backups could wind up doing more harm than good. At the end of the day though, its Nintendo who decides who to ban, not us.
