Hi everyone. I've been looking for a good "definitive" controller for my PC games, emulators, and my Android smartphone/other devices i might own in the future. I'm interested in the Dualshock 4 controller, because it's a bluetooth controller, and it seens i can use it wired (USB) on my PC as well. Where i live the PS4 controller is almost 50% cheaper than the Xbox One controller, but i just want to be sure of a few things:

1) Can i connect the DS4 on my Windows 10 PC using a normal USB cable to play wired? My desktop doesn't have bluetooth.

2) Will it work on Android 7 over bluetooth? My phone is a LG K11+.

3) If i connect the DS4 on my PC's USB port, will it charge while i play?

4) I do not own a PS4. Can i use the DS4 alone?

5) There are many models of the DS4 (CUH-ZCT2E; CUH-ZCT2; CUH-ZCT2U; CUH-ZCT1U), which one should i buy?

1-Yes, that's the way i use it as i lack bluetooth as well
2-Probably, i've only used it on android 8 through 10 on a Nokia 6.1
3-Yes
4-Alone how? if you mean that if you need a ps4 for it to work even if you will not use it on one, no, you dont need a ps4
5-That i don't know, but they seem to be minor revisions, if they were truly important they would be discussed more

1. Yep. You can use either Steam's built in controller manager or DS4Windows to convert Directinput (which is what the DS4 uses) into Xinput (the Xbox controller input standard which every game with controller support uses), this will be necessary since not all games support Directinput (as it's an outdated standard). Once setup though it's seamless and will work with any game.

2. So long as you have Bluetooth 4.0 it'll work fine.

3. Yep.

4. Yep, no PS4 needed whatsoever to use the controller on PC.

5. They're minor hardware revisions, with the last letter being the region they're launched in (which makes no difference in terms of functionality). Get the latest revision since it has slight better battery life (which would be ZCT2)

Might look into a wii u pro controller with mayflash adapter. My Bluetooth failed a few days ago and it works no problem. It has the ergonomic feel of the 360 controller with the dpad of the ps3/4. That's my two cents.

As for DS4Windows, I read that it's now outdated now that InputMapper is made to take its place. I haven't tried it yet, but you might want to give it a look.

from what i understand, not all ps3 games can use the ds4
I am not aware of any, It's just the the ps button that does not work. You need another controller to do ps button. Only ds3 works in recovery mode so a beaten one will work or some third party will do. But for playing games........
also you can use a regular usb keyboard it has ps for regular menu

if you dont mind the missing rumble, sixaxis, and headset functionality, there's quite a lot of great games on the compatible list though, but some great titles are missing

Please note the OP isn't using the controller with a PS4 or PS3, just PC and Android, so none of the above is really of any use to the OP.
i know, but i like pointless arguments
Ds4 is better than ds3. Also online multiplayer is dead on all platform.
im not saying its not, im saying that if you intend on using it on a ps4, you are missing features and titles
