In terms of ban protection, yes it's as safe, as long as you do the test to make sure it's working and your ISP isn't bypassing it.is this as safe as incogneato?

In terms of your Switch's safety, it's safer than incognito, because it doesn't wipe irreplaceable data from the eMMC, and rely on the user to keep a backup (it's sad every time another user posts about having lost their backup and knowing another Switch is permanently damaged).
Hi, just a quick question and it can be really dumb but i'm probably gonna hack my switch soon and I don't plan to use internet at all on my emunand. It is possible to put the 90dns settings on my switch without connecting to internet/doing the test ? Just to put 90 dns in case if I put my switch on the dock with the lan cable connected ?
If you have access to your modem/router after you do the test you can set 90dns in your router (this has the side effect of blocking all devices on your network from nintendos servers)
But if we are wiping some irreplaceable data from emunand where is the problem ? It also affect the sysnand ?
It has been done to people with system nand, there is a reason almost every single guide starts with Make a backup before you do anything else
hum sorry I didn't get it, you mean 90dns is only for sysnand users ? Because i'm not gonna do anything sketchy with my sysnand and keep all theses stuffs for my emunand. But even there I want to be protected for an eventual ban so do you think I will be able to set up 90dns on my lan cable without connecting to internet ? I do this in prevention because if I dock my switch by accident with my lan adapter active, I will be screwed
I think I didn't have phrase my question correctly or we are not on the same track since english is not my main langage
Okay so 90DNS can be set on a few levels
1 - on the device, in this case the switch, (going to be honest dunno about wired adaptor) but manually entering the settings
2 - on your gateway device (modem/router that connects to the internet) this blocks everything on your whole network wired or wireless
For you, it sounds like your best bet would be to make a console backup if you haven't already, setup emunand, and then set both 90dns AND Incognito on your emunand, so that it is an extra safeguard, does that make sense?
yeah I understand now, I don't own an hacked switch yet but when I will hack mine in a couple of month I will try to do both solutions and use incognito, but I heard there is a lot of incognito version, one of atmosphere, one of tinfoil, ect, do you know which one should I use ?
Either/both iirc they both function the same way now
the most important thing before you load CFW, before creating the Emunand is to make a complete nand backup and store it in a few safe places (this includes your keys)
all good sorry I can't help about the docking it and using lan partYeah I plan to do this it would be a shame to get in a position where i'm self banned because of the info I have burned with incognito or worse : bricked without nand backup. Thanks a lot for the answers and having been with my misunderstanding
It would be a better idea to use the Atmosphere implementation of Incognito because it does not permanently affect your emunand or sysnand. You don't need a backup, like you do with the Tinfoil one.Yeah I plan to do this it would be a shame to get in a position where i'm self banned because of the info I have burned with incognito or worse : bricked without nand backup. It's just a toggle that stays in your SD card. You don't need to turn it back on every time you boot into emunand. But I will need to use the incognito from atmosphere every time I want to use my emunand ?
Or it's a thing I can toggle on and off ?
Oh wow then it's great I will use itIt's just a toggle that stays in your SD card. You don't need to turn it back on every time you boot into emunand.
Yes. Atmosphere's prodinfo blanking makes actual wiping of prodinfo obsolete and unnecessary (and it was always too dangerous to recommend generally when so many people don't seem capable of keeping backups). 90dns is safe too, so that plus Atmosphere's setting is doubly safe.would you consider it save to use 90dns plus exosphere.ini blank prodinfo. becuase i dont want to use incognito (tinfoil) at all
how do you blank prodinfo through atmosphere?Yes. Set exosphere to "1" in the ini file.how do you blank prodinfo through atmosphere?
So i wont get banned if i use this even if i use freeshopHey all!
90DNS is a DNS and HTTP setup running together to block all Nintendo traffic while 1) passing connection test without connecting to Nintendo servers 2) allowing anything that isn't Nintendo (so you can still enjoy homebrew).
People tried a number of games that are not using Nintendo servers for online play (fortnite, paladins, hulu) and reported that they do not work.
YouTube doesn't work unless you launch it once before using 90DNS, but I heard that there's a file that's going around that you can install that bypasses the online checks. Dig for that if you're interested.
We (as LavaTech) actually did this half a month ago and released it on reddit, but it seems like people all around the scene were interested in it so I guess it's time to release it here too.
Here's the GitLab repo, it has the code, configs and the self-host guide (it's a bit too confusing and complicated to put here).
WORKS ON ALL FIRMWARES BUT AS ALWAYS, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
You might get system updates, that's normal, and doesn't mean that bannable data is sent to Nintendo.
Setup Instructions
Optional: If you really want to be sure that 90DNS will protect you, then you can test for DNS hijacks (done sometimes by ISPs) by running the 90DNS tester. Just install the latest version of Python (works on both 2 and 3), install dnspython ("pip install dnspython"), get the script, run it on command line. If you get "It should be safe to use 90DNS on this network.", then it should be all good. If you don't get that, follow the self-host guide.
Success, all Nintendo servers should now be blocked on your Switch.
- Go to System Settings
- Go to Internet tab
- Open Internet Settings
- If you already have a wifi network: Tap on your wifi network, pick Change Settings
- If you don't have a wifi network added, open Manual Setup and set up your network name, SSID and Security
- Set DNS Settings to Manual
- If you live in North or South America: Set primary DNS to "207.246.121.77", and secondary DNS to "163.172.141.219".
- If you live anywhere else: Set primary DNS to "163.172.141.219", and secondary DNS to "207.246.121.77".
- Save and then connect to your wifi
Regarding claims of not blocking updates
I can't reproduce this issue after EXTENSIVE testing. If you have this issue then please run tester, and if it does succeed, DM me. If not, call your ISP and blame them.
Disclaimer
Obviously, use this at your own risk. While I used it without getting banned and so did many others, Nintendo is unpredictable so I can't guarantee that this will prevent a ban.
Going online without 90DNS or a similar solution may result in a ban as it'll send telemetry to Nintendo, so I don't recommend doing that. If you really want to go online, just restore to a NAND backup taken before your bannable actions.
