PS1/2 Network solutions for OPL?

Hi all, apologies in advanced. I am terrible with computers

I've set up OPL on my PS2 and successfully streamed my PS2 games from my laptop to the PS2.

I wanted to be able to do this wirelessly as I do t have the space really to have my laptop sat next to my router and also my girlfriend using my laptop for her University work in our spare room.

I did not heed the Internets warning about how bad the performance would be and wouldn't you know it FMV's are pretty much unwatchable. I connected the laptop directly into the router and everything runs super smooth

So I know things like rasbarry pi exist but honestly I don't know enough to make an informed decision. Can I build some kind of small device that I can put my games on, connect my router via ethernet and then leave it behind my TV to stream forever to the PS2?

It doesn't have any USB port so I don't think it does

Get pretty much any miniature computer with ethernet, put linux and samba (configured as a SMB1 server), there it is

I assume your model of PS2 does not take a true HDD?

Ah OK cool just wanted to check so I didn't go but a bunch of useless tech, I'm guessing there's plenty of easy to follow guides for this as well right? Yeah it's a slim 9000 I believe.

Another option may be a cheap NAS hdd enclosure, although the Pi may be better long term and more flexible e.g. Plex server.

Yeah, the 9xxxx superslims (just like any model 75xxx or higher) do not support actual IDE devices
(if you do your research you may find out about something called HD Pro claiming to add one, but technically it's a completely novel accessory that will only work with software specifically designed for it, just like last year's very promising commercial disaster the PS2NetBox)

I'm guessing there's plenty of easy to follow guides for this as well right?

When you are faced with a problem, try breaking it down into blocks

You need to put an operating system on it and connect it to your home network, so that you can control it via SSH;
You need to install Samba and configure it to share a folder of your choice with a specific name;
You need to set up an external drive to mount to that folder, if you want to use something that's not the main system SD card;
You need to adjust the network settings to give it a static IP of your choice (bonus points of you figure out how to make it do so only if the connection to your router fails, so that you keep configurability);
You need to power it off, connect it to your PS2, turn it on and wait for it to become ready, then configure OPL to connect to it

These individual points are probably well documented online, you "only" have to piece them together!
