Currently use:
SNES9xTYLcm 0.4.2 Mod Rev. 28
Built on Sep 28, 2015 with GCC 4.6.2
CRC32 Hash: 0xEAC3358D

It has problems with freezing up on Actraiser, and is far too slow to play Kirby Super Star. It slows down during the title sequence of Actraiser as well.

If I leave the emulator by any means other than closing from it's built-in menu, saves are not written. Thus if it freezes and I haven't closed the emulator the correct way, my progress is lost even if I saved.

This is clearly unacceptable, and I'd like to know if there are any other emulators for the PSP, or if I should get a GBA and a flash cart instead (or if there are any other handheld emulation options that don't cost $400). A DS or whatever they are called would be acceptable if it can play romhacks and FFTA2, which I haven't played, but I know nothing about the different versions of that system and would need a quick rundown.

I might not be the right person to explain that much to you but I'll give you an info that might or not help you.

I use the: Snes9xTYLme Mod 180404
Build on Apr 4 2018 with GCC 4.3.5
CRC32: 0x89D0F7DC

So far I didn't have much trouble running my games which are different from yours, but running at least your wished Kirby it had no issues to me, no slowdown, nothing. I usually play Top Gear and Donkey Kong which also has some issues but I've managed to solve (or at least reduce) the slowdown from them with this config of mine:

I have also changed the PSP Overclock in the Misc tab to 366.

So as I said, I don't know if this version and with my config you will be able to play those game of yours or if this might be the answer you want, but I can tell you one thing, if you have the PSP 2000 or the 3000 then you should use the emulator with the "me" version on it, since it's meant to use the media engine of those models, so, it's better.

It seems to run Kirby Super Star and ActRaiser well and without crashes, we'll see how it does with romhacks. Thanks.

Report back when you finish testing. It's good to know more info, who knows when someone will come across the same situation.
FF6 Brave New World, Mega Man X Hardtype (they're not kidding about the hard part), Kirby's Dream Land 3 Improved Inertia, and Mega Man X Capsule Remix hacks all work. I'll test more of the Final Fantasy hacks tomorrow, when I have more free time.
