Official English version for 'MOON', an "anti-RPG" game, coming to the Switch next month

moon_top_logo.jpg

Self-described as an "anti-RPG", MOON is a game that was first released on the original PlayStation in 1997. However, the game was never officially localized until now, that is. Indeed, a team of its original creators worked on bringing an official English version for the first time ever, and exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. Toby Fox, Undertale's creator, even cited MOON as an inspiration for his acclaimed game.

What's this about "anti-RPG" you ask? Well, it's better to check it from the new trailer and official description:

[What’s an Anti-RPG?]
Have you ever played an RPG and wondered…
“Why is it OK that this hero is breaking into houses and stealing items from people’s drawers?”
“Why is it OK that this hero is killing thousands of innocent monsters?”

MOON is a game about turning those tropes upside down, and seeing what really happens behind the scenes of your favorite RPG videogames.

[Story]
One night, under the silvery light of a full moon, a young boy is suddenly sucked through his TV and into a videogame — a classic JRPG called “Moon World”. Following closely behind the game’s brave hero, the boy begins his own journey to recover the world’s missing moonlight by collecting “Love”.

As Moon World’s hero loots and levels up by cutting down monsters for experience points — you know, as heroes do — the boy releases their souls and collects their “Love”. MOON is not a game where you fight to level up — your own progress comes by gathering lost “Love”!

As you explore the world, you’ll meet a crazy cast of weird and wonderful NPCs. Observe their strange habits and daily routines by visiting them at different times and days of the week, and learn their secrets to uncover even more lost “Love”!

"Now, please, open the door!"

[Key features]
Conquer a game with a clear conscience in this anti-RPG! Save the monsters’ souls! Follow the real-time daily lives of Moon World’s NPCs, day and night, all week long!
Collect dozens of “MoonDiscs” containing original songs, and choose your own favorite background music!

MOON will be available on the Nintendo Switch this August 27th.

Wel dang, I was aware of this game for ages, but as I don't know moonrunes, well... could never play it.
This might finally be the occasion to do so, lol.
But... switch only?
Lame.
Hope the translation can be ripped from the game and patched on a ps1 iso, kek

Thank for letting us know about it. This gives more hope on a better translation process. Anyone know of PSX/PSOne games hacking tools?
Long ago, I've made some RIPs (reduced size working games without videos/streaming audio), but that was it, would like to try somthing.
Thanks in advance.
You're welcome

Firstly, why is Markiplier doing the voice over for the trailer? :rofl2:

Second, i thought it was another re-release of Moon from the DS, then went to 3DS as "enhanced" which then I assumed it was coming to Switch even more enhanced which would be good to have the Bitmap Bros do more bigger and enhanced games as they are truly under appreciated, wish they would remaster Dementium 1 for PC or switch like they did part 2 (hell even a double pack for switch :D). Sadly this is not them or the game and i am talking way off topic.

Wish there was a way to buy this and show support without using the eShop
Just gonna have to wait until someone dumps the game and rips the files and upload the rom of it to the internet for those that don't have a Switch and wants to play it on a emulator or on PlayStation 3 or PSP via custom made PS1 Classics.

Guys you HAVE TO rip the text and put it on copy for PS1! I have y PS One there looking at me, and a Sony Wega CRT also looking at me with sadness. All of the above connected using S-Video looks gorgeous ;)

So please guys, it would be wonderful, how I love old consoles and the hacking scene!

Yeah i know about them, i'm talking about making it as a PS1 iso so you don't need a Nintendo Switch to play it.

Unless LRG makes physicals of translated Japan Only PS1 games
