Tesla - The Nintendo Switch Overlay Menu

fhwyjbd.png

Hey all.
I'd like to introduce to you, Tesla: My answer to the growing need for proper ingame front ends for sysmodules.

What is this?

  • Tesla consists of three individual parts. nx-ovlloader, the Tesla menu and libtesla.
    • nx-ovlloader is basically nx-hbloader ported to run as a sysmodule. It runs in the background and loads overlay NROs (.ovl files) given to it.
    • Tesla Menu is the equivalent to the hbmenu. It's the initial thing loaded by nx-ovlloader and acts as a hub for you to select all other overlays.
    • libtesla is where it becomes interesting for developers. It's an easy to use library that handles layer creation, UI drawing and all the overlay UX. It makes it very easy to create a new overlay for anything
  • A frontend for sysmodules that before required either a homebrew or a config file to change settings or used sounds or the LED to give the user feedback.

What is this not?

  • A tool that lets you create overlays that are always visible. Overlays can get unloaded way to easily for this.
  • An excuse to port absolutely everything to a overlay. Nobody's going to need a title manager overlay. If you consider making a overlay, keep it simple. You don't have a whole lot of memory to work with.

How do I use this?

First of all, download the latest release of nx-ovlloader and the Tesla Menu from the GitHub Release page and extract it onto your SD card.
After a reboot, hold down L and DPad Down and push on the right joy stick to bring up Tesla at any time. Navigation works as you imagine it.
Similar to normal homebrews, you place your .ovl files in the /switch/.overlays folder on your SD card.

Notice

Make sure to use the latest Atmosphere release when trying this as older versions ( as the one SX OS uses too ) probably won't have enough memory available for this to run. Overlays do take a lot of space so nx-ovlloader reserves 6MB. 2MB for framebuffers and around 4MB for overlay developers to use in their overlays.

1) what game?
2) try loading game, hitting home button (but don't quit!)
3) load overlay and enable cheats from home screen
4) exit overlay completely and go back into game

Give that a try
With this methode, i can load cheat with Trials of Mana but Tesla won't work with Street of Rage 4 :(

anyone has working edizon overlay setup on ams 0.12 and ofw 10.0.2 every time i enable cheat in xenoblade chronicles 2 after i exit edizon overlay game ams crashes i didnt had that problem on 10.0.0

Edizon overlay makes AMS crash with "Into the depths" cheat codes.
Hitting home and activating the codes via Edizon homebrew works just fine.

just curious, are you guys using the atmosphere, or the forked neutos?

i think there is still some weird bugs in tesla with streets of rage 4 and animal crossing. i noticed that, tesla crashes when called out in these two games, but not other games.

also, tesla crashes in streets of rage 4, but you can go back to home page and album and use the "c" in edizon. edizon does work for streets of rage 4 in hb menu, but just not while in-game with tesla.

so, i'm guessing there is still something buggy.

Just now I updated to the latest Atmosphere and now I can't seem to get the amiibo to read. I'm sure everything is where it was before I updated. (I was on the latest Neutos build).

Cheats with Edizon seem to be working fine, but the amiibo through emuiibo just won't show. Any help?

i'm having the same problem, but i have to laugh, because this is like all these extras in android phones, where people can do more than originally intended on a phone. whereas iphone is more like the original nintendo switch, strictly controlled and monitored, but everything (almost everything) works just fine.

if it makes you feel better, in the past month, i have re-done my sd card for.... i can't remember how many times, and my internet traffic is almost 1TB because i have to keep re-downloading the games.

keep... as in repeatedly? How many times will you "keep" downloading your games before you dump them and save a copy on your PC?
One of my favorite sayings (and what prompted me to buy Acronis True Image for my PC and Laptop ages ago... and I'm glad I did): Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice... shame on ME.

the thing is, when something goes wrong, such as tesla/edizon not working, i always first delete atomsphere/sept folders, and other related crap, to make a clean install. and if it still doesn't work, well, it's new sd card time for me.

i do have an img of the sd card, but it's an img of a card on which tesla/edizon don't work...... well, you see my vicious cycles.

by the way, how long does it take to restore the img for you on acronis? let's say for a 128gb card.

It seems that uninstalling emuiibo with Homebrew Appstore and then re-installing it did the trick.

I have noticed since updating to the latest Atmosphere, however, that cheats seem to struggle. The list I had for Animal Crossing worked fine yesterday but only displays about half of the list now. Weird.

Honestly, I haven’t used Acronis on a card. I simply copy&paste for that. Restoring a 1TB ssd takes about 15 minutes. Maybe less (never actually timed it, but it’s fast. Literally saves DAYS of time, vice a complete OS reinstall/reconfigure).

I was referring more to dumping your installed games to .nsp files, so you can quickly reinstall them again without downloading. But on second thought, you only need to save a copy of your Nintendo folder for that (unless you also do a nand restore from a time before a game was installed).

And please... don’t be one of those people who says “downloading” when you’re copying and pasting from a HDD to a card. “Downloading” is pulling it from the internet.

no, i meant "downloading", because when i redo the sd card, i want to make sure it's a clean copy. first i delete the partitions, then recreate the partitions, then.... blah blah the whole 9 yards. that's why my internet traffic is already 1tb this month..... lucky my isp is relaxing because everybody is home surfing.

Hopefully someday you can update the online application in some way by putting an option or something from the same switch that would be incredible. so as not to be updating the files from the pc and switch from time to time.
