Tesla - The Nintendo Switch Overlay Menu

fhwyjbd.png

Hey all.
I'd like to introduce to you, Tesla: My answer to the growing need for proper ingame front ends for sysmodules.

What is this?

  • Tesla consists of three individual parts. nx-ovlloader, the Tesla menu and libtesla.
    • nx-ovlloader is basically nx-hbloader ported to run as a sysmodule. It runs in the background and loads overlay NROs (.ovl files) given to it.
    • Tesla Menu is the equivalent to the hbmenu. It's the initial thing loaded by nx-ovlloader and acts as a hub for you to select all other overlays.
    • libtesla is where it becomes interesting for developers. It's an easy to use library that handles layer creation, UI drawing and all the overlay UX. It makes it very easy to create a new overlay for anything
  • A frontend for sysmodules that before required either a homebrew or a config file to change settings or used sounds or the LED to give the user feedback.

What is this not?

  • A tool that lets you create overlays that are always visible. Overlays can get unloaded way to easily for this.
  • An excuse to port absolutely everything to a overlay. Nobody's going to need a title manager overlay. If you consider making a overlay, keep it simple. You don't have a whole lot of memory to work with.

How do I use this?

First of all, download the latest release of nx-ovlloader and the Tesla Menu from the GitHub Release page and extract it onto your SD card.
After a reboot, hold down L and DPad Down and push on the right joy stick to bring up Tesla at any time. Navigation works as you imagine it.
Similar to normal homebrews, you place your .ovl files in the /switch/.overlays folder on your SD card.

Notice

Make sure to use the latest Atmosphere release when trying this as older versions ( as the one SX OS uses too ) probably won't have enough memory available for this to run. Overlays do take a lot of space so nx-ovlloader reserves 6MB. 2MB for framebuffers and around 4MB for overlay developers to use in their overlays.

Any way to have it just to load the EdiZon only? I do not have any Sys Plugins, but it still displays EdiZon, I press A, Overlay goes away, where I have to do the Button Combo again to get EdiZon Overlay showing (Cheats/Stats).

Redownload the edizon overlay from the main post

I'm having an issue with Animal Crossing where the overlay for Edizon won't open and causes the system to crash, but the overlay is working fine for my other games. I downloaded everything new, and redownloaded the overlay just in case, and have a cheat file for AC but it still doesn't pull anything up then crashes. Anything I can do?

It works just fine on Animal Crossing I'm using it right now.

Make sure you are using the latest version of atmosphere.
Make sure you are on firmware 10.0.0
Make sure you delete the folder atmosphere/contents/010000000007E51A

Then update The menu and overlay and ovlloader files.

It will work 100%.
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DELETE THE /atmosphere/contents/010000000007E51A FOLDER WHEN UPDATING!!!

I'm on atmosphere 0.11.1, hekate 5.1.4, updated Tesla to the latest files on the github and I deleted that old folder.

The Switch keeps crashing when I try to open EdiZon within Animal Crossing. The Tesla overlay seems to run fine, I can pull it up and close it. I can check the status, etc. There's just an issue when I try to open EdIZon. The overlay closes then within about 3 seconds the Switch crashes.

How are you able to use it without issues?

Did you update the OVL, Tesla menu, AND the edizonoverlay files? Because all were updated.

Also have this problem, specifically re: CaptureSight. I’ve installed and reinstalled EVERYTHING and everything else works perfectly.

The TeslaExample and Luxray overlays also function fine, so I’m led to believe this might not be a Tesla issue. I’ve reached out to the dev of CaptureSight to see if they have any ideas.

Edit: Crash report (.txt) attached in case ot helps troubleshoot

Yep. Downloaded edizon overlay from the main post. Still the same x_[

It looks like everyone is reporting the same Switch crashing issues with the latest builds. I'm just wondering how you're getting it to work.

Might have to do with Edizon overlay itself, not tesla. Hm
I wish I could tell you guys :/ I used Kosmos updater to update my Hekate(without changing config files) and updated atmosphere(using updater app) then I updated to firmware 10.0.0.

I then deleted the folder in contents as advised by Werewolv and dropped the new files onto my SD card. And it all works 100% for me :/.

On animal crossing and other games.

I'm getting crashes after updating everything. In Animal Crossing and various others-- Notably, Enter The Gungeon. It crashes everytime I clear a room with cheats activated. No crashing without.

@WerWolv You're probably already aware but on 10.0.0 FW with most recent tesla/ edizon overlay quite a few titles crash when opening cheats like in animal crossing, sometimes the crash isn't immediate but the overlay disappears and doesn't come back and then it will crash eventually giving indication that the error was caused by 42xxxxxxxxxx7E51A.
