So I'm hacking a friend's 2DS, I've had it for a while now, and I don't remember if I just stopped during a section or not.
Helpful I know, anyway I'm certain I did the ntr flash with my original flashcard.
Despite that I couldn't boot into SafeB9SInstaller via hold Start+Select+X+Power while in sleep mode, attempted multiple times and nothing.
I've also attempted to move to the next step into Configuring Luma3DS but that also doesn't result in anything.
I have a new flash card now, r4i shdc 2020, and attempted to inject the firm but it says failed.
I was wondering if I could use the SafeB9Sinstaller NDS file on my flashcart to install boot9strap.
I'm honestly not sure at this point, wish I could wipe it and start from scratch again.
Any help would be appreciative.

SafeB9SInstaller does not start via ntrboot; Oh my…
Troubleshooting this is especially tricky because there are so many reasons that all lead to the same result: SafeB9SInstaller does not start!

Please use the process of elimination. Yes, this list looks ridiculous but I tried to include even the most ridiculous reasons. In order to narrow down the problem, you have to find out what is not the problem:
  • boot.firm (SafeB9SInstaller) is not found
    • no SD inserted
    • faulty SD / fake SD
    • file is simply missing
    • wrong file system (must be FAT32, 32kb cluster size)
    • → Try a different SD even if everything is alright (see spoiler with testing software below).
  • For anything but old 2DS with sleep switch: Magnet does not trigger standby reliably (pressing buttons while in sleep mode may make the console wake up shortly) → Use a stronger magnet (but not some insanely strong one!!)
  • For O2DS: Bad sleep switch; very easy test.
  • ntrboothax is not flashed correctly → Use R4i Gold 3DS Plus with internal switch
  • Contact issues with the flashcart → Troubleshooting this is tough because an ntrboot cart with good contact does not show up on home menu (Acekard 2i does). This is the reason why I prefer the "Single system" method from the guide. One starts with a flashcart in normal mode and can verify contact on the Home Menu. After flashing ntrboohax the cart is not removed and the good contact remains.
  • User error: Holding buttons too short or too long. I got the best results with releasing (Power) first. Depending on the console successfully pulling off ntrboot can be more or less hard. I can do it successfully pretty much every time on the N3DS(XL) but have a hard time on the O3DSXL. Getting the universal legit Mario Kart 7 out of my N2DSXL took me half an hour (and like two dozen bad words). That thing was stubborn as a mule.
Make sure your micro-SD is detected by System Settings → Data Management

  1. Copy all your data from the SD to a computer. Reformat the SD to FAT32, 32kb cluster size, if bigger than 32GB and using Windows with guiformat.
  2. Check your SD Windows, Linux, OS X.
    • If you get any errors replace the SD.
    • If you get no errors copy your files back on the SD.
Unknown reason: Some people were not able to use ntrboot on their console no matter what. Normally I say it the other way round: If ntrboot does not work for you, try Seedminer. Keep in mind that if you can't use ntrboot you are missing the ultimate method for recovering from catastrophic softbricks (under normal circumstances you will have to force such a catastrophic softbrick by doing stupid things on purpose ignoring all warnings.)

Good luck in any case!

Edit:
Forgot this. (Why do I always forget things and have to edit my posts right after posting?!) You can't simply use the installer like any game or application from the flashcart. It misses the necessary privileges when in DS-flashcart-mode.

Starting the installer the very easy way can only be done on firmware 11.3 or lower with the exploit chain Soundhax→udsploit→Safehax.

It's a 2DS, the flat one, from what I recall it doesn't need the magnet.

I'll give these a go, hopefully I can figure what I did wrong at some point. I've hacked a couple of 3DS/2DSs but I certainly made a mistake in just stopping in the middle for some reason.

That's true, but you still need to put it into sleep mode with the switch.
