I have a wii running 4.3U. I installed the homebrew channel, and then installed usb loader gx. When i insert certain discs, instead of showing the disc it says says "Wii System Update." I'm seeing this up for my nieces and if their friends bring a game over or they rent one, i would like them to be able to use it normally. I have all of our games backed up in usb loader.

I was initially following the lifehacker tutorial, which i realize now is a little out of date. So i used dopmii and did the "Install I0S36 (v3351) w/FakeSign" trucha thing, which maybe i didn't need to do. Then i used d2x cIOS installer, and followed the tutorial at wii.guide. I installed:

cIOS: v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52
cIOS base: 56
cIOS slot: 249
cIOS version: 65535

And then did the same cIOS and version with base 57 in slot 250, and base 58 in 251.

Then i installed the usb loader gx channel using wad manager V1.7. When it asked what ios version to use i used the default, 249. No NAND emulator, using USBLoader_GX_V3_0_UNLR_Channel1_AHBPROT.wad

That worked great, and I've uploaded all my games off of disc. But, i have the disc channel problem. I've read all i can, and some people say use priloader, others say not to, it's outdated. I also read about using modmii to install maxed version of the cIOS in all the channels, but i have a mac so can't use it. I could do it manually if that is a real solution.

Basically, I'm confused. What's the current advice for this? Can i use priloader? Max out the channels?

One thing i did try was just reinstalling the cIOSs when it first happened. It worked! But then, it didn't. Reinstalling again did nothing.

Help! Trying to get this done by Christmas. Thanks!

So, even though 4.3 is the last official update to the Wii System Menu, there were a ton of little tiny ones that came out towards the end of the console's life, with a handful of games having the update on them. It's kind of annoying, and especially more so after you've updated and got stuck in this sort of situation.

Priiloader is a great bit of kit, but I don't know how much it'll actually help you here. What it does is prevent system updates from occurring, rather then removing the check for them. It'll still do the "System update available" nonsense, although now if you go to click "Yes", it just won't work. Priiloader is great anti-brick protection, though, so after this is all sorted out, you should probably install it.

I've never heard of maxing out the cIOSes before, so I can't offer any insight there.

Hello.:)

For PRIILOADER_

It helps you four Sure to get rid of the Update Message.
It has Settings/Hacks which disables the Update Features from Discs and Online. It also makes your Wii "Region Free" for Games/Channels/Virtual Console and GameCube Games.

PRIILOADER is never a mistake to install.:)
It maybe saves your Wii´s life if something goes wrong on your Wii....

Thank you.:)

Thanks for your advice. I decided to risk it, downloaded priiloader v0.8.2 and followed the wii.guide tutorial...
Inserted sd card, loaded priiloader and installed it. Then i restarted, while pressing the reset button.

The priiloader screen came up as expected, but it wouldn't recognize my controller, so i couldn't do anything. On the controller, the 3 lights flash. I tried changing the batteries and switched remotes (Even though i knew it was fine, just hoping).

Now, when i restart, i get the normal home screen, but the remote won't work. And if i restart while holding reset, the priiloader screen comes up, but remote won't work.

Anything i can do to bring it back?
Thanks, Jennie

Have you tried resyncing on the home screen?

Thank you! I did, at least i thought i did. But i let it sit for a while and think about what it had done ; ). And then i tried again because of your post, and it worked! I'm so relieved.

Once i got the remote to resync, i was able to enable the settings and so far so good, my problem is solved!

For anyone else with this issue, I used the wii.guide priiloader tutorial. It has download link and clear instructions.
I enabled
-block disc updates
-remove diagnostic disc check (just in case)
-block online updates (because...9 year old niece)

Thanks everyone for your help, it'll be a wii Christmas after all!
