Hi guys wondering if someone could help me out,

I downloaded the new Swiss 688 today and when I try to play a GCM from my SD card it tells me that the file is invalid.
I have not used my GC for a while but I know that last time I used it booted fine from my SD card.

I did try using the old version of swiss (451) I have just to confirm they are still ok and its a problem with the new swiss but my old swiss disc wont load :(

Do I need to do something special to get them to work with the new version or something I am missing?

Cheers.

Ok so I have figured this out, Sort of....

If I put my swiss disk in and boot up as normal it brings up my SD card contents but nothing works, everything is invalid.

If I then go to the bottom menu, press on the eject button and then press on my SD card again everything seems to load up fine?

Can anyone tell me how to fix this??

Hello.:)

If you boot/start your Games from Slot B please use Slot A instead.
Did you use the SD Media Launcher SD Card Reader ? This One is known as "problematic" on reading some Games.:(

Thank you.:)

Thanks for the reply, I am using slot B but have the same issue with Slot A.
And I am just using a generic SD reader I got from ebay.

Cheers, Yeah thats the same reader.
And yes it booted fine with my old version of swiss.

it just seems to be since I updated to 688.

they all work fine once I reload the SD from the menu but just wont work after it first boots into swiss.

Can you maybe try an ISO instead please ? :)
Maybe Swiss do not like some compressed Files anymore.....:(

GCMs are not compressed, technically they are just renamed ISOs.

@titchgamer
Could it be possible that there is some minor corruption on the SD that is making it have issues reading it, or that the SD is starting to fail if it's old? Maybe try running CheckDisk on it. You can also do a thorough scan with chkdsk.exe /F /R X: in the command prompt, which scans for bad sectors. By default it doesn't do that.

So I can now confirm its not my card or card reader.

I ordered a SD2SP2 a few weeks back and it arrived today :)

anyways using the new adapter and a new micro SD it does exactly the same thing.

Well slightly different in that it defaults to the memory card in slot 1 instead of the micro SD but never mind atleast it works and at much better speed than the old version :)

Have Fun with your Gamecube.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
