I'm not going to do this now but in the future, I'm pretty sure I will want to try doing this hardware mod.

With a little Googling, I found the Trinket M0 and the RCM-X86, both seem to do exactly the same thing.

Which of these are the better option, and why? If theres a different chip/better chips out there that can be used, I'd like to know about that as well

Trinket M0 is most popular out on the market at the moment.

You can take a look at this thread to decide what you want to get, I have 4 units hard modded, 3 of them is Trinket M0, the other one I have is the Rebug which is a clone of the trinket m0.

The thread above , the reload chip is currently work in development.
Thanks for all the helpful info!
Would using the RCM-X86 be a better decision since I wouldn't have to unsolder anything before installation?

No worries! I don't think it's inappropriate. Every good businessman has to advertise somewhere haha

For me, this is something new that I would like to try, so I probably wouldn't use your service. I do have coworkers with unpatched switches, so if wanted to get into nodding, I'll try to keep you in mind.

The RCM-X86 would be easier yes, as you get rid of the whole step of removing the microusb port.. on the trinket m0... also it was laid out specifically to be used on the nintendo switch... if I'm correct it looks like the RCM-X86 is just a modified trinket for the exact purpose of being a nintendo switch modchip (funfact you can get the RCM-X86 cheap on ali express)

If you can find a Rebug Chip go with that, RCM-X86 is also alright depending on what you can find
Where can I purchase a Rebug SwitchME M0? I just Google'd it, and I like it. the design seems to be the cleanest of the three boards

I'm not sure, you can contact gbatemp user @metaljay , hopefully he can help you out, that chip is hard to find.

Edit: Well you can look at aliexpress, but it is coming from China.

Gotcha, I try that. Thank you!

Although they basically perform the same function, would you say the SwitchME is a better chip than the RCM-X86?

just a quick question that i have
when installing a Trinket M0 internally in the Switch, is it absolutely necessary to unsolder the led and USB port?
my plan is to buy a clear housing for the console, and I don't plan on reinstalling the heatshield plate.
my thought is that should allow enough room for the USB port when putting the rear housing cover on, but i don't know if there's any adverse effects from leaving those two components intact and just soldering the needed wires to the Trinket M0.

USB needs to be removed, LED isn't 100% mandatory.
