Hello

I have a "patched" Switch from Sep'2018 with 4.1.0 firmware updated to 5.x.x
I want to get all the scene it can have but... I was wondering for the best solution possible:

a) sell this Swtch and look for a non "patched" Switch.
b) sell this Switch and get the new brand one with best battery (also with best screen I thought).
c) keep this "patched" Switch until the Scene can unlock it.

Thanks for all.

Sell and look for non-patched is my top recommendation

Second is wait for the scene to hack your patched switch and keep the fw below 8

Hands down option A. Not only is an unpatched console better than a patched one (because of the supernag) but the battery life difference is too small to make a significant decrease. And as far as I know, the screens are identical.

The red box is nearly double battery life, what does it take to make a significant difference? You might not use it in a way that you need that battery life but others may.

That said you have to buy a red box accepting that it won't be hacked, because there's only a small chance something will be discovered several years down the road. So its really a non-starter if you want to get into "the scene."

Look for an unpatche one.
There are infinite possibilities with CFW in switch. You can:
-play every game for free(I know its piracy, just saying)
-play other consoles game like PSP, GBA, GB, NES, GAMECUBE etc.
-play android games like pubg mobile, gta san andreas etc

I wouldn't trade my cfw switch for a new switch with just better battery life and slightly better screen. Trust me it doesn't worth at all.
Also I don't think that an exploit will come in the near future for unpatched units

4.5-9 is not double 2.5-6.5. That's a maximum increase of 1.4x

At launch and for a few months afterwards they used JDI as the primary screen supplier, JDI ditched Nintendo for some reason so Nintendo switched over to Innolux and AUO. Those older JDI screens look better than Innolux and AUO screens in literally every way
Is there a way to check which screen my console has? Without opening it.

Check your LCD vendor ID at 0x3D60 in prodinfo. If the first value is 10 it’s JDI, if it’s 20 it’s Innolux, if it’s 30 it’s AUO. CTcaer posted a payload somewhere that will automatically displays your Id, if I can find that I’ll add it to this post. EDIT: https://twitter.com/CTCaer/status/1164397875918512133

Your math is weird. I think some people said they got ~6 hours in 3D games compared to ~3 hours before, which is double, and those are both well within the specified ranges.
If you assume power draw scales the same way depending on how complex it is as it did on the OG Switch, then you might be correct. But just because it's a more efficient SoC doesn't mean it's equally more efficient under both low and high usage conditions.

Very old unpatched consoles actually have better screens than more recent ones, which makes option a an even better choice :P

That isn't always the case. I have a launched console and a new model one and the new model screen is clearly better in every way to the launch one.

I guess it is just luck of the draw.

however the ideal choice is to have an older non patched switch for all things homebrew and a newer patched model for everything legit. At least that is the best option for me.

Could also just be personal preference, I know some people prefer the warmer color temperature on the Innolux/AUO screens. Most people I’ve talked to do prefer JDI though.

These are just the numbers that Nintendo posted. Because its not double the battery life, 3 hours on the Erista won't equal 6 hours on the Mariko assuming identical usage.

4.5 is 180% of 2.5. It's "nearly double" i.e. 200%. Yes that's the minimum battery life for heavy usage scenarios, the ones where battery life would become a real issue.

Only the CPU/GPU have improved efficiency (plus memory a little?), and perhaps the fan running slower due to lower temps. I'd guess that when playing games where these are more idle, a larger portion of total power draw is taken up by the screen and everything else, which is basically the same power draw between the two systems, which makes the max estimates not as far apart.

What I'm saying is that it does equal 6 hours. I don't have one myself, but based on what I've heard, it really is more or less double.
