Hi

First and foremost, apologies. I can see there are multiple threads on this, with hundreds of similar questions, but im ultimately just after some advice/links etc to the most recent steps to take with running custom firmware on a recently acquired unpatched switch i own

im hoping some kind people can point me in the right direction of how i get my unpatched switch, running 8.1.0 to the stage where i can run various emulators ie Amiga, also, maybe how to play, erm, 'free' games

Along with my switch, i also have a 256gb micro sd card, and also a dongle, this xyz type (supposedly has SX OS, atmosphere and Reinx on it, although, not sure if these are the latest releases)

Im more familiar with the PS vita scene, but decided its time for a move to some more powerful hardware

Hoping some one can assist me

Thanks in advance

Rik

Well, that's not the right place to ask for this.

I'll respond point by point.
1. Buy it used on ebay or amazon warehouse or some online shop. (Try to ask for S/N before buy it. There's a lot of tool online for check if Switch is patched by S/N).
2. Choose a CFW. You could choose between SXOS (paid one), Kosmos (atmosphere pack), ReiNX.
3. Profit.

For more specific informations there's lot of topic on this forum. Picked a random one. https://gbatemp.net/threads/universal-cfw-instalation-guide.517122/

To run CFW -> Download Kosmos Switch Pack and Sigpatches from github.
To run Emulators -> Download Lakka-Switch from official website.

Are these packs compatible with the dongle, or am i confused as to the dongles use
I only ask, as the dongle has 4 CFW on it, but they are probably old. When looking at the file size (128kb) trying to source latest files from github returns a folder with heaps of files and about 5mb in size (atmosphere)

Before installing anything: Make a full backup of everything!

How?

Any dongle is compatible.
To boot CFW or Emulators you need to put hekate payload on the dongle.
You need to configure the hekate ini file to be able to select on the boot menu one of two options: CFW of Lakka.

If you don't know how to do this, you will need to have two SD cards. One for CFW, one for Lakka.

Definitely make sure you create a nand backup before doing anything (I store mine on Google drive ever since I lost my clean backup by dropping an external HDD). Then I would recommend Kosmos (atmosphere) for your cfw choice. The online updater is easiest for people who just want to grab and go instead of constantly checking for updates. There are guides everywhere about putting your switch into RCM and booting cfw.

For nsp(game) installation you're going to need something called sigpatches and for emulation you're going to need retroarch. I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to link any illegal content here (or even discuss? Sorry!), so you'll need to procure backup games on your own.

It's better to ask questions than trial and error. That's how mistakes are made.

Hope this helps?
