Been playing the game since this morning and already formed an opinion that it's a very unforgiving game if you're not playing on easy mode.

I even got bored of the story mode quickly as I swear finding those letters is easy for two but then the third is always impossible to find even after scouring the whole maps back and forward to see if I missed some shortcut, which they seem to be totally unobvious shortcuts.

The time trials seem somewhat easier once a path is worked out but again are unforgiving if you make one screw up it basically can cost you the whole thing and that's on easy mode! Not sure if the time trials change on the harder difficulties but just found it very difficult.

I got all the characters though so I couldn't care less for the story. Yet, whenever I play easy mode in races I always manage to almost (half way) lap the cpus, yet on normal I can never come first I'm always around 3rd-5th place and well, on hard difficult of course I always come last. The game seems very unforgiving as one screw up costs you the whole race if you can't recover quickly from it on normal/hard. I've gotten more used to drifting and getting boosts from it but I always end up messing up in someway trying to actively do it and time it right. Seems like the cpu in 1st always is way ahead of the rest of the racers too (I do like no rubber banding but how am I supposed to catch up, eh idk).

Is this game aimed for kids? Feels like a kid unless they're so some of kart racer god would get frustrated quickly by it. I do like the game but I seem to find myself stuck playing easy mode, if not normal at just barely ever finishing in 1st at that difficulty. I'm not the worst at Kart racers either, I'm a pretty above average player in Mario Kart, certainly not one of the best but still very good at it. They play very differently with drift mechanics though so maybe not the best comparison. Though really, surely I'm not the only one or maybe I'm just lowkey trash at it... As the title says, anyone else find it difficult?

It comes out Friday but of course there is unethical ways of playing it already. It's good but I've found it very challenging and the leap from easy to normal seems pretty big at least for me as I'm somewhat in the middle or at least bottom tier capable of normal mode.

I'm great at Mario Kart but this game definitely isnt going to hold your hand if you don't perform well enough. I'm not sure if I'll get any better and overcome the difficulty or if the game is just too demanding and catering to someone who wants a real difficult challenge. I feel bad for all the kids who will probably rage at the game as even my younger brother struggled with it more than I have.

I've played Team Sonic Racing and that games fairly decent too, cpus in the game rubber band like hell waiting for you to screw up though but found it very easy to get the hang of. If you had a choice of both though I'd definitely pick CTR. Also, just to clarify CTR doesn't seem to have rubber banding which is nice. Probably what makes it less forgiving too, though.

I find it tough too, I can’t get 1st place on the first cup race.

Yeah, I find it more than possible on easy mode even if you don't drift often. Go to normal and all of a sudden I'm struggling to get into the lead.

Go easy on story with time trial or finding those letters though, damn it's hard. I spent agesss on the first one with the letters not having a clue how you get on top of the bridge it was on shortcuts are literally secret passage ways because I can never find them. Glad to hear it's not just me though. I got pretty good at the drift boosts but it still doesn't help much

yeah after about 10-15 races on the first track, not even once being first I just gave up and deleted it. come one what's exactly the target audience for that game? newborn masochists? and my switch isn't linked to a nintendo acc so the game asked me 3 times after each race to link it in order to post highscore online, pretty annoying.

I like it but yeah, definitely seems way too hard like not to resurrect a dead meme but literally the dark souls of kart racing. You'd think the target audience would be kids though but I don't imagine any kids succeeding at this game. :rofl2:

I'm trying to beat the last of the four first courses for at last 2 days now.
It's really frustrating, they really assured that the AI can cheat you.
C'mon sometimes you're at 1st and a mile away from the another racers and so in the last second on the third and last lap, they came from nowhere behind you and get the first
position for no reason.
Annoying!

Hmm, really? I've not witnessed any obvious rubber banding so far so I assumed there wasn't any but maybe there is. If I get ahead on easy mode they never catch up even when I do a massive muck up though. As soon as I go to Normal mode though it's like playing against people who are slightly better than me. :cry:

I'm playing (or at last trying to play) at normal mode too, there's a 800mb patch waiting to be downloaded here, i hope they had changed a bit the AI behavior.

Nope! It's just like i remember it in the 90s! Hard lol, welcome to the struggle which some of us had to deal with back then.

Weird that i use to play the PS1 version emulated and never got such struggle to beat the race, i think they made it a bit harder than the original game :D

I never played the original. Guess they're trying to stay faithful. Don't think kids have enough focus to try overcome a game of the difficulty it is though, these days with so many other easily rewarding alternatives. Even Mario Kart can provide a challenge without being too difficult though, hmm.

If that's version 1.0.1 then it really doesn't change much but rather adds new content (characters and vehicles). Can't imagine it would be an enjoyable time trying to unlock it all though, I just cheated them all and will stick to standard grand prix's. I do look forward to the free DLCs yet to come, yet I don't see the Spyro one coming out until near the end of the year considering the next one isn't out until July. 1.0.1 really does make the game feel full of tons of content though, the one thing that's impressed me about this overall. Most kart racers lack in that department.

It is called rubberbanding and some games tend to do that. I remember Need for Speed Underground, not sure if 1 or 2, where there was a specific race where the opponent was always three inches away from you and I had a really hard time beating it

It's strange because I swear they don't rubber band in easy mode. Maybe it only happens in normal and above, I mean I can never even come first in those races without them at my neck and on a more easier to drift track.

Exactly how I feel! Easy is literally easy as hell, yet I go to normal and its like a challenge never being able to come 1st. I can't wait to see people dominating on hard mode just to see the pure skill it must take to even beat them at that difficulty.

Easy = For Kids
Medium = Sonic players
Hard = 90's player
Wouldn't doubt that. I played Team Sonic Racing and it feels like at times winning is down to pure luck as no matter how good or bad you performing the rubber banding in that game is insane. You can literally do trash and win in the last lap or dominate the whole race to have some bull mess you up making everyone pass you. I liked Team Sonic Racing too and could actually win yet I can't help but criticise the rubber banding for being extremely blatant. I understand it keeps a constant challenge but not really my thing to have them all at my throat even if I'm pro-ing it on an easier mode

I actually managed to win the first cup fairly easily on normal mode coming 1st 3/4 races. Guess I'm maybe getting better or probably because those tracks are easier to traverse. Hard mode is beyond me though
