You can play online if your NAND is clean and that you setup an emunand and play your backup there, you would get ban if you ran CFW on sysnand and play online. CFW ain't stored on the system, you push a payload to activate CFW until you shut it off again or ran out of battery, if you want a clean nand use SX OS emunand, as the Atmosphere version of emunand is still experimental.

hey man, so do i understand correctly:

i can do:

install official firmware update on my virgin 4.0.1 switch (it has to be max fw 8 for online play right?) via system settings.
then load into sx (i have the pro), install an emunand (which version, the normal or the hidden partition or the other?).
use the dumped files on emunand, dont go online in emunand, dont install auto rcm.

now i am able to play original cardridges online without ban and then use the jig and the usb dongle to boot manually to my emunand whenever i wanna play the other games?

BUT doing this, i will miss out on future hacks for lower firmwares (for example 4.0.1) which will be more convenient in whatever way?

i cannot do:
install a "clean" emunand and play online with that making the ninty believe it is my ofw? thus have 1 ofw im doing nothing with except keep it low fw 4.0.1, 1 cfw which gets booted via autorcm with a handfull games for offline play, 2cfw "virgin" for playing my original modules online?

one question still:
should i update my ofw with conjournx to 7.0.1 or only the emunand? (are all fw on switch region free, i only found THE FIRMWARE but no difference between EU, USA etc) if so, how do i seperate them with the updates? my ofw 4.0.1 still does not have exfat support. (is exfat still bugged with emunand and games?)

thx for the help!

The switch has an anti downgrade fuse system, using ChoidujourNX you can update your firmware and preserve your fuse count, but booting into OFW without a bootloader you burn your fuse, and you can't use ChoidujourNX without CFW. The benefit of a low firmware such as 4.0.1 is potential permanent CFW without any modchip but we have no idea when that would happen. If you want to play online then use your sysnand to play online, but you have to make sure you didn't load any cfw before or you just gonna get the ban hammer. Nintendo does certificate ban render that switch useless from play online. You can only update the ofw via nintendo server if you are 100% that the nand it is clean, you would need the highest available firmware to play online, if you want to use the Deja Vu exploit you can't go over 7.0.1 as the exploit got patched in 8.0.0.

Update file are region free, you need to make sure you get working updating file, there are some sites out there with non working one, I recommend that Darth site, exfat is more corruption prone , a lot of people recommend FAT32.

Im back, managed to finally get back into RCM mode. I think it was the jig not contacting properly.
Ok so now, I have pretty much what I need. I am on a fat 32 sd card, as exfat wanted me to update the system software, So I was advised to just stick to fat32 and split the xci/nsp files.
Do I just use xci splitter? Then put both parts on the sd card in games folder? How does tinfoil know to install multiple files? Does it just work? Or anything I need to do? Thanks again.

You can USB install .NSP files larger than 4 GB without splitting even if your SD card is FAT32. As for .XCI files, either convert them to .NSP format then USB install them or split them, put them on the SD card, and either launch/install them.

I'm getting my SX-OS kit in the mail in a few days. When I do get it, do I make a backup on the current firmware version (my Switch in on v5) on do I grade with ChoiDujourNX and then make a backup? Or do I make a backup of both?

Also, if I am upgrading, what version should I upgrade to? I read 7 since most purchased games work on it still. Is that correct? Also should I upgrade both the emuNAND firmware and real NAND firmware or both?

Hello there my name is Koroco and i have a Switch problem. (The main problem is my switch won't boot up past the Nintendo Switch logo, even after factory resetting it). So I hacked my switch and I downloaded all the nsp's that i wanted. I was playing Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, but then I had to go to the dentist. So what I did was I put my switch on Sleep Mode and then I put it in the dock. 2 hours later I arrive home and I wanted to play my switch, my room was hot because I forgot to keep my fan on. My switch was pretty warm and I thought before I turn it on I'm going to let it cool off. After it cooled off a bit I tried turning it on and my switch would not boot past the Nintendo switch logo. I powered it off thinking i could just inject a payload into it and it would be good but it would not boot past the logo. So I went to the recovery mode and I initialized it without deleting data. It worked, I turned it off so i could put it in cfw but when I turned it off it froze again on the logo. I reset it a second time but I chose to delete everything because I can easily log in and install everything I had, but this time it wasn't able to boot up after the setting up part. I was talking to some people about it and they said to try to boot up cfw to see if that would work, so I booted up cfw and it still froze on the logo. They were thinking that my ofw has been corrupted and to probably fix it if to go to the recovery mode and update the system, but if I do that I may not get cfw. So can anyone help me "fix" my switch.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give everything so that I people don't have too much questions. :)

Thanks for that, still learning about the installation options. I thought you had to transfer to the sd card then install from tinfoil for example.

On a side note whilst trying to inject a payload I received an error message and it failed. I unfortunately dont have the error message now, but since then I cannot boot the switch into any mode. I had auto rcm enabled. I cannot boot into RCM or boot the console at all.. What are my next steps?

Create a backup before you even boot with SX OS to CFW. If you would create the backup after you booted in CFW, your backup won’t be clean. Clean means that your backup hasn’t any traces of modifications on it. You can update either to 7.0.1 or 8.0.1. Both versions work fine. If you want to use EmuNAND, you can update both. BUT Nintendo just released 8.1.0 update and I am not sure if the latest SX OS release supports it. Therefore only update EmuNAND for now.

EDIT:
I just checked the SX OS forum and it seems that it's safe to update SysNAND to the latest firmware (8.1.0) and keep EmuNAND on 8.0.1. So the steps you need to do:
1) Backup your clean NAND before doing anything
2) Create EmuNAND
3) Update SysNAND to 8.1.0 with official update (if you want to play online with it). If you don't care about online, you don't need to update SysNAND.
4) Update EmuNAND to 8.0.1 or 7.0.1 with ChoiDujourNX.

Also NEVER go online during you're in EmuNAND. Only go online with clean SysNAND and NEVER run CFW in SysNAND.

Another noob question:
I have a backup NAND, I went to run a game after 8.1 was out and accidentally hit update, I'm on AutoRCM so the system never booted back in to OFW, is it safe to restore my backup NAND?

Edit: I was in atmosphere when I hit the update so...

Yes, you could restore it but you will lose every progress which you have made since the backup.

Ive managed to boot into RCM now, so not sure what the issue was.. however I now get this on screen (sd card isnt in the switch at this point as im copying my NAND to my pc)

one question, i thought updating with choi will force you to use auto rcm? how can i use the ofw with max fw and only update the emunand with choi? the tutorials i found were only for cfw use only :I
and booting into the sx menu (not the actual cfw) is considered safe and didnt do anything to my original nand right? because i started hekate through this

It doesn't force you to install autoRCM. It simply installs autoRCM as default but you can disable it during the update process. For example my SysNAND is on 2.1.0 and my EmuNAND is on 7.0.1. I don't need autoRCM because I have 2 burnt fuses and EmuNAND cant burn fuses since you have to boot with custom boot loader to EmuNAND.
If you only boot to the SX OS menu, nothing happens with your original NAND. At the time you press boot with CFW to SysNAND, your NAND won't be clean anymore.

thx for the info. should i use the hidden partition emunand or the normal files? i think the normal files would be awesome easy to backup and copy and so forth, whats the use of the hiffen partition one on sd?

Yes, that's true. Files can be easily copied and I use this method myself. The advantage of hidden partition is that it's harder for Nintendo to detect. Since I don't go online with my switch, I don't care about it.

ok i see. any reports from bans of open emunand files yet? because i think if they rreally would want, they can check for the partition just as easily :). because im thinking about doing the max ofw play online, emunand play offline thing...
