Hacking Anyone taken serious dive into moving their PS2 collection to PS3/PS4?

Original hardware is preferred, but PS2 is miserable experience on modern HDTV thru OSSC. Both PS2 fat/slim are loud and bulky in my experience. Can't enjoy playing like that. Has anyone taken a serious look at which games are most compatible between PS3/PS4? I'm really only focusing on exclusives that weren't remastered, since XBOX/GameCube (Wii U) works better for everything else.

For PS4 compatibility check out this list. It has not been updated for a while since ps4 scene slowed down.You will need a ps4 on 5.05 to able to play ps2 pkg.

Also its a bit of a mess because the ps4 has no internal emulater instead each official ps2 classics release comes with a emu built in. So graphical issues are common on most of these.

Whats games are you looking to run I can advise you further. I know a bit about this subject because I've created & patched with help some games which were unplayable.

My PS4 isn't exploitable, but my experience with PS2 on PS3 quickly showed me that nowhere near enough of my PS2 library is compatible with the PS3.
...plus, my PS2 looks great on my 4k TV via RGB component (equally as good, if not better, as the less than perfect upscale performed by the PS3) - no OSSC required. I'd take the original experience on a PS2 via RGB component cables over the hit-or-miss compatibilty that the alternatives offer, but I understand that not everyone has a decent TV with component and scart inputs that can handle native resolutions as well as my Sony Bravia does.

I recommend using psxc2 on a good quality pc if you play ps2 regulary to get the best picture quality & game compatibilty.

I heard the OG Phat PS3 has good PS2 compatibilty because they had an internal PS2 emulater built in but were later removed on later console revisions. Recommend getting the PS3 phat test unit.

You might want to check a youtube channel called My Life In Gaming who look in dept at picture quality of ps2 games on modern TV.

Not bad. Soul Reaver 2 fixed, Street Fighter 3 EX partially fixed, R-Racing Revolution fixed.

@KiiWii I've seen him mention this. The compatiblity list need updating because most of these games were tested with the original rogue galaxy ps2 emu template. Since then more emu templates have become available.

It was with an original EU phat with back-compat via software (Europe unfortunately never had a hardware back-compat model). CFW opened it up a bit further, but despite years of playing with it I never found a compelling reason to shift my PS2 gaming away from the PS2.

the original Ps3 fat seems the best option for modern PS2 game. I have seen them listed for 70 bucks or less. However I prefer to stick with pcsx2 so I can cheat.

Yeah, they're ticking timebombs - bricks waiting to happen.
Mine packed up a few months ago, and I only refurbed it last year... should've been good for another few years, but it just ylod'd virtually overnight - now I need to get hold of another PS3 (prob a slim next time).
Although, 12 years is pretty good going for an early PS3.

I'm beginning to see what you mean. Several games tested with problems. Perhaps I'm better off just modding my PS2 to silence its fan, and using SCART thru my OSSC. Also remember reading about DualShock 3 support over Bluetooth. Maybe as good as it gets.

The disc drive is the only noisy part in the Slim, you could network or USB load your games to eliminate the noise if you're okay with slightly slower load times or in some cases hiccup-y FMVs.

PS2 on PS4 actually looks nice, when it works well(with up scaling and smoothing options). But for games that don't run or run well, I use the PS3 fat hw backward compatible.. games like Star Ocean 3 lag on ps3/ps4 software emu.

yes the fat is louder and runs hotter, if you replace the thermal paste with some quality paste, can set the fan speed to lower with decent temps...

mine runs at 28% fan speed and maxes out around 70C, barely hear it.

Don't believe all PS2 Slims are created equal, or maybe some have worse fans than others. Both of mine definitely get loud asf after starting a game in OPL.

In my experience, the phat PS3 fan is louder than a phat PS2 and a slim PS2, running flat out, combined.

Yeah, I have a couple of fat ps3 with full ps2 bc and I could use those but I always prefer slim ps2 streaming games from nas with opl. The only benefit would be a wireless controller and I think you can even use usb bluetooth with opl now. I just haven't bothered to hook that up.
