I bought a used Vita first generation and when I hold the power button down for a few seconds the blue home button lights up but the screen is black. I can hold the power button again and the blue led will flash as normal and then power off. I can do the same with the safe mode too, I know it's probably bricked but maybe it is a loose connector to the screen?

I've opened it up and taken the back off because I was looking for a loose ribbon to the screen but you can't get to the screen from the back. I need to heat up the screen at the front and it usually is a destructive process. Taking the motherboard out too seems like a right PIA!

Anyway is there anything else I can try? just the way the blue led behaves has me thinking it's actually working ok apart from the screen. Can I connect it to a PC and do something that way? thanks

Might just be a plugin if you got it pre hacked. Turn of vita and hold L while booting up

thanks I tried it and nothing. I was looking at it just now, its night so I had a torch and it showed up a huge crack in the OLED thats not visible in other light. I'm sure that's it!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

On another note, can anyone recommend an ebayer that sells good replacements? Are the screens from China comparable to the original? I was looking at this.

It might either be a nightmare or a bit of fun putting a new screen on but i'd give it a go for 25 quid.

Ah dang that sucks! That'll definitely mess up your screen, I bought a few replacements from ifixit and ebay in the past. And that one that you linked looks good since it says it's an original screen, I don't think anybody makes the screens so it's most likely removed from another vita.

It's pretty easy to do once you get it open it's just a matter of removing the screws and disconnecting the ribbon cables and swapping everything over to the new screen.
