Unfortunately, the new Pokemon release will not contain any Pokemon not in the Galar Dex. This means that not only is there no national dex, but you can't even transfer your old Pokemons into the game. Obviously this also affects the Romhacks which will not be able to provide a full Pokemon experience.

Not a direct source, but: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/bzfdoz/with_the_news_that_only_the_galar_dex_will_be/

EDIT: Better source (thanks to leafeon34): https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/11/pokemon-sword-and-shield-limited-transfers/

It could be understandable, as there is no other mainstream Pokemon game for the Switch. Maybe be able to transfer from Lets Go with some sort of Pokebank for the Switch, but... oh who am I kidding? They could easily use the 3DS pokebank to allow cross platform trading between the 3DS and Switch. In fact they could use the Pokebank to 'upgrade' the pokemon to only be on the Switch games. I hope they update the game in the future to include the Nation Dex and all pokemon. I want my Detective Pikachu and Mewtwo to fight it out in my TV.

...but don't they have that otherPokemon bank? So, pretty much, this guy is a one-and-done?

There is Pokemon Home, which was said to be a place for all the Pokemons of both 3ds and the switch. If you transfer Pokemons to the Pokemon Home, you cannot transfer them back to the 3ds however. Thus, people thought that they would be able to transfer all of their Pokemons to Sword and Shield - but now they are trapped inside Pokemon Home.

You may say they finally found their home <3

I smell an idea for a
comic here.

"Halp! this fucker locked me up in his shitty pokemon home...I can't get any pokemon sleep, either...there's an electrode on my nipple"

I really don't think that's the case, though anything is possible.

Likely, what will happen: slow updates, like Su/Mo letting certain mon in (hack, probably no problem; online, maybe gen 1-3, ect,) when they want.

Alternatively, they'd just release event-mon/we're fucked until further notice, like trading from Gens before.

Well, they basically explained that it would be too much effort to program all the Pokemons in. So while they might add a few Pokemons, the vast majority will likely not be added.

Yeah, the paint is still wet on this one:

"
After all, the confirmed Pokémon from other regions that will appear in Sword and Shield are 131 out of 809 known species.

Pokémon Home is expected to launch in early 2020,"

https://www.newsweek.com/pokemon-home-update-sword-shield-1443453

---------

nothing of value was lost

"That means Pokémon bred and raised for competitive battles, or Shinies, will essentially be left behind." (same newsweek source)

Well, a shiny pokeslave market just quietly died....and a lot of people are gonna be piiiiiiiiissed, on both sides.

--------

I guess one thing we can do is see how many previous gen pokemon are in the trailers to get a better idea of "WTF."

No wonder why I was way more excited for Spongebob Squarepants: BFBB Rehydrated than Pokemon Sword and Shield. This information just killed all Sword/Shield excitement for me.

I'm actually wondering how many people will stay on the older games if it is indeed true that most of the Pokemon will be omitted.

No, this will kill the game

I could see it....maybe, but we know there are 131 previous generation mon. Multiply 18, seven times--the product is 126.
What if they take the best of each generation, while cutting mon like Unown?

I mean, this info is literally just coming out, so there's a good chance they just want people to focus on Gen 8, its mechanics, etc, until 2020, when the game will have been hacked to Luvdiscs ass and back and they need to give in to save the game.

I also guarantee you, at some point, at least 25% of people saying, "Nope!" will play, regardless.

I was thinking of picking this up but now I wont. When I played Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee I thought that seeing all the Pokemon on the overworld really brings the game to life; but the game is limited to the first generation, the same Pokemon appear in multiple areas and the different cites, routes and caves are all too similar to each other, detracting from the experience. It gave me a lot of hope for Pokemon Sword and Shield because there are so many more Pokemon, the region will be bigger and areas will be more unique. This news crushes my hopes.

The amount of money required to hire animators to animate every Pokemon would be insane, but this game is going to sell insanely well. The animations could then be reused in the highly probable gen 4 remakes and Pokemon Sharp Sword and Solid Shield so the money invested will pay off.

But as Game Freak knows, even without every Pokemon the game will still sell insanely well. They're really taking advantage of the Pokemon brand name here.

EDIT: This thread still doesn't have a good source. This article links to the YouTube video which is the direct source.

EDIT 2: I hope Nintendo and Game Freak have braced themselves for lots of rude emails and another wave of review bombing.

Pokemon Sharp Sword and Solid Shield

Or maybe that's the ploy to get you to buy the new iteration with all the other shit they love to give and take away.

I mean....it is no surprise, unless they release three Pokemon games: Sharp Sword, Solid Shield, and Longinus: The Spear That Sounds Like a Dirty Word.

Im guessing those titles will be use for future Pokemon Hacks and not legit games
