when its in the middle than you need to test with cables. but for example my switch is green and it works.

open it up and check if it says HAC-CPU-20 inside near the usb port, personally i would say just grab a usb cable, or even a micro usb to usb-c adaptor, you get one of these free with galaxy s8, s9 etc phones

but i would imagine the US would have $1 usb-c cables in dollar stores, we have them in pound shops here

Hate to keep this going but I'll tell YOU what, you find 1, just 1, factory unboxing with a USB-C to USB-A in it the people doubting will give in including myself. But purchasing multiple consoles, modding many units, along with all other outlets to absorb this information, I, and ANYONE I know, knows that there is NO USB-C to USB-A that comes factory. I can't stand when people defend something they knowing nothing about.

Edit: Felt I needed to at least speak on what OP asked, you're in luck man, Walmart has them for like 5$ and Dollar Tree has them for a 1$, given you live in the states, hope you're able to mod your unit!

The switch serial number is always on the side of the box check the serial number run the first 7 letters & numbers through this site https://damota.me/ssnc/checker/

that should tell you asap if it’s safe or not you could even do this at the shop ask the person working if you can look at the box do a quick search on your phone and away you go or if it’s one without a box say on eBay just ask the seller what the serial number is and you can check but the only big issue buying a unpatched unit of eBay which are now very rare people are not stupid they will know if it’s unpatched or not, you could end up getting being ripped off by buying a banned unit and getting your money back might be an issue seeing as though it’s been banned using cfw the seller would probably deny it’s him! Got to be very careful it would be a very grey area with selling sites due to using the exploited system and having it banned I doubt you would get a refund the seller would deny any knowledge of the online function ban and you would have a hard time explaining the situation for a refund. I personally would never touch a second hand unpatched unit from a seller..

Don't want to buy cable or payload dongle, then check with those sites I provided.
