Hacking CFW process

Hey guys

I was wondering, do we have anyway to CFW / hack the Nintendo 3DS without having to use a NNID?

I have been told by a friend that he has done it but I am not aware of that method, I have had to log in to download from the store during my process.

Nintendo only enforces a NNID for downloading free to play games like Steel Diver: Sub Wars (and demos). European region has no free DSiWare (for Fredminer) so I can’t test if it also requires a NNID.

Getting CFW on a 2/3DS without NNID:

• firmware ≤ 11.3 → (mostly) Soundhax, udsploit, safehax
• firmware 11.9 → Fredminer with any paid DSiWare
• any firmware version → ntrboot / hardmod (if you're good at soldering)
• Frogminer should be possible with another entrypoint for starting the Homebrew Launcher (e.g. Ninjhax 2.x, oot3dhax)

I have a 3DS I hacked with seedminder and I wanted to give it to a friend... He wants to sign into his account so I guess the simple option for me is to use godmode to remove my NNID and then he can take it over.

Removing the nnid with godmode9 will not work as the 3ds console would still be linked to it on Nintendo's servers. So you would be unable to link a new one. What you can do is set up cfw with your nnid then when all is working format the nand and you will then be able to use another nnid.

Thanks Amanda, so at which point in the seedminer process would I need to do the format you suggest? Are you saying complete the seedminer process and then before I put anything else on the device (software etc) just format it and then complete configuring it?

I'm guessing you are going to be using luma cfw. So set everything up and make sure luma is working then format the 3ds before installing fbi and games.

Gonna summon the 3ds god @TurdPooCharger to the thread just to confirm I am right. He is the number 1 guy on this site with 3ds hacking.

I am new to all this, I hacked the one I want to give him and thats the only one I have done using the Seedminer 3DS hacks guide / steeldiver and yes the process did involve installing luma

@AmandaRose is correct. You don't reformat the 3DS during any portion of the [seed/steel/frog/fred]miner process until after verifying Luma3DS CFW is up and running or once the Finalizing Setup is completed. Unlink the NNID or start a new profile after it's hacked.

Prematurely reformatting the 3DS will change the KeyY in the movable.sed causing a mismatch in [de/en]cryption. Here's an example of a failed seedminer.

If there's a lesson to be gained from watching that, it's best to stay as a average Joe or normie.

Yep that's exactly what you need to do.

Keep in mind reformatting the 3DS will erase all your titles and saves. If you have anything worth backing up, do so with GodMode9 (titles dumped as cias), GBA VC & DSiWare also in GodMode9, and Checkpoint or JKSM (saves + extdata).

Hey guys I just did the format and all software has been removed as we said. Do you know how I get into homebrew from this point to install my cias etc. Thank you.

OK start the 3ds then goto the download play app and start it. Once it has loaded press the L button and down on the dpad and select button all at the same time. From here select miscellaneous options then select switch the HB title to current app. The press the b button twice then the home button. Now close the download play app then reload it and the homebrew launcher app will now load.
