Support for Windows 7 ends in ten months.

Boy you just can't stand that some people prefer Windows 7 over that POS WinBlows 10 can you?

You know, since you're such a Windows 10 advocate, how come I don't see you going around warning everyone every time there has been an issue with Windows 10? I guess informing users about the 1809 Update and the Deleting of Personal Files Bug wasn't news worthy enough? Or you just got too much pride to say anything negative about your precious Windows 10? I suspect the latter.

Sounds more like you can't accept that people like an OS you blindly hate?

Great, nice to see 7 getting some love. Plus, who cares if official support is dropped soon, as there are still plenty of users using XP and 7 and no intention of upgrading to 10.

I still use both and even dedicated win95/98 setups for certain things.

I need to get a Win98 boot going.. Official support ending isn't entirely a bad thing. Just leaves the niche crowd to fend for themselves. If you know what you're doing, there's no issue.

The bug you're referring to only affected some of the people who manually installed the update, and it was fixed a long time ago. It's not recommended to use an operating system with known security exploits and no security support. What I'm saying isn't controversial.

I never said Windows 10 or Microsoft are perfect, but if you use Windows and your hardware can support it, Windows 10 is highly recommended.

sounds oddly familiar...

What Lacius says might or might not be controversial, we need to wait to see.

I still have a windows XP laptop I keep active at work, as we have legacy DVR and other security systems in use by clients, where the software just doesn't work under anything newer, and/or we need IE with activeX support for video plugins etc. I'll be glad when the client hardware dies as then they need to replace it with newer tech. You would not believe how many large chain stores still have analogue video surveillance etc. sigh.

getting back on topic with windows 7 getting DX 12 support and Microsoft saying they are going to be supporting porting other games.. it seems odd for MS to be adding DX 12 so late in Windows 7's lifespan if there wasn't going to be an extension of Windows 7 support, in my opinion.

I stand with @Lacius on this one, extended support for Windows 7 ends in 10 months after that if you want the update on Windows 7 you gotta pay a yearly service fee of $25, $ 50, $100 as the years go by. In a corporate environment, it is deadly and costly to stay on an operating system that is not getting security patches for free.

I mean, sure Windows 7 is stable for most, but it is worth leaving your OS more vulnerable unless you fork out the same amount of cash it'd cost to get a new OS license?

You still can use the current windows 7 license to get a windows 10 upgrade, it is not like Windows 7 is getting any major update, I work as IT Administrator and I have both Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines at my workplace, Microsoft isn't really pushing out any major patches or anything, mainstream support for Windows 7 ended back on 2015, what we have here is on extended support which end next January.

That's what I did actually, used my Windows 7 key to upgrade to 10, no regrets as 10 has been incredibly stable on my end. I see no reason to stay on 7 as all my games, programs, etc have worked without a hitch. If people want to pay for extended support, hey, their money, not my problem.

Very much this.

I don't particularly like Windows 10 nearly as much as I liked Windows 7, but at this point, it's a bandaid you just need to rip off. Most problems that people have had with Windows 10 were either in its early days, or have been fairly niche, minus the whole Cortana and Start Menu ad crap. Thankfully, those can be remedied, and you can now set updates to 'Manual' if that's something you're worried about. Also, most hardware companies are foregoing support Windows 7 for newly released hardware. Win7 users are going to have to upgrade at some point, so they might as well just get it over with and start adapting ASAP.

dude, i still have a notebook with win8, it's still possible to upgrade to 10?
Yes, just create an installation disc/flashdrive and do an upgrade installation (without booting directly the installer), the activation will still carry over

Of course, unofficial activation methods exist too...

I wondered how long it would take to get Dx12 on Win7 but, man it took a really long time. So very few games use dx12 to it's full potential though, so it hasn't been important at all.
I've seen windows 10 kill it self over night on 3 separate machines. All data lost. There are so few things that are Windows 10 exclusive, it makes me wonder why so many people use it. Seems like they blindly "upgrade" for the sake of having "new" software.

If "security" is why you have windows 10 installed, you're not very knowledgeable. I'll gladly take a "loss of support" in 10 months over all the telemetry, driver horseshit, and straight up PC suicide that comes with win 10.

Until the chipset driver hacks to get newer chipsets working with win 7 stop working, I'll be on win7.

I'm not sure it was entirely Windows 10 to blame, sounds more like crappy hard drives being the culprit IMO.
