The First Visual Programming Homebrew Engine, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii™ and Microsoft Windows
Now with Node Programming and 2D Sprites support
After Gen7 Engine, the new version called Gen7.1 Engine (GenSevendotOne) creates a new way to make games and applications, with visual programming plus node programming and the very awaited 2D Sprites support. Now developing a game is possible without initial requirements and in a record time! And Gen7 Engine supports various platforms, to make your application run same on Switch, Wii, Windows and much more soon!

A Visual Programming Engine, with hybrid block and node programming

No programming language knowledge required! Make true your ideas with blocks, and thanks to the powerful drag-and-drop system, make your elements interact together like 2D sprites.
The appealing UI is there for an even better experience, so the application creation process be a piece of cake!

SECTION2.png

A Multiplatform Engine, for Nintendo Switch, Wii and Microsoft Windows

What better to have to code once, and see its application run same on various platforms? With Gen7 Engine, that's possible! Gen7.1 Engine can currently produce executables for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Windows and much more soon, including mobile devices.

SECTION3.png

An evolving and empowering engine

Gen7 Engine is in constant development, and a lot of new features are on the way. We aim to make it the most polyvalent and easy to use engine for both homebrewers and game developers, so keep in touch with the progress.

See Gen7.1 Engine in action by yourself:

Patreons Release: Different Plans for Gen7 Engine Patreon Edition
For now, Gen7.1 Engine is still at the beta phase, therefore only Gold and Silver Patreons can access Gen7 Engine. Gold Patreons can get stable Gen7.1 Engine 3 weeks before the free version, and Silver Patreons can get it 2 weeks ago. As for beta versions like this one, only Patreons can have it, the free version will be released when the stable version will be finished, and that 3 weeks after Gold.
Gen7 Engine Patreon Edition also provides many benefits, like the access to Move! Animation Tool, and future Patreon exclusive features.

The following image summarize different plans available.

Also important thing to notice, being a Gen7 Engine Patreon is not only for the Patreon Edition version, but also to support project's development. Because without enough Patreons, the engine will ultimately lead to its cancel of future development plans, as you probably know a full engine development takes a lot of time. So help the project's future and be Patreon today only for one penny, thanks!

I'll start off by saying anything that gets people excited about programming is great, but engines like these always end up very limiting in the long run, and when somthing finally "cant" be done visually, people tend to give up, again this is amazing because some wont give up, and go learn a "real" engine/language instead, just I dunno I've always felt these type of things also tend to be board line scams, especially when/if they cost a lot, or sell copy/paste assets, if I'm wrong please explain, I haven't looked into this thing that much, but is it "YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING WITHOUT PROGRAMMING!!!!!!!" If that were true would be people who get cs degrees with emphasis on gaming, but I gotta say, Unity also kinda started like that.

I don't share this opinion. Learning to program can be very hard without any Visual feedback.
I will give this a try, this is a powerful tool.

Great work op, and also I think the way you decided to run your program (Make it free or not) is a good decision.

A visual homebrew engine for the wii and the Switch. But why for the Wii? The Wii is already 13 Years old and is still getting supported by developers? Well, that's impressive. Would be interesting what it can do for Switch game development.

I pretty much agree with this, to a point. I’m sure there will be people who manage to make some nice things from these kinds of intermediary engines, so I don’t mind their existence. And as you said, they probably can encourage people to go off and learn a real language.

But when I was starting out, quite a while ago now, I tried a few different versions of these sorts of things and all they ultimately did was frustrate me.

In the end I just gave up on them, got myself a few books and set about teaching myself. I’m not going to say it was easy, but it was enjoyable. Most importantly of all it didn’t frustrate me the way these things do, I had complete freedom to do what I wanted.

I made many, many mistakes and I still do make mistakes. But we learn from those mistakes and it makes us better for it.

I don't disagree with this, but doesn't this engine also support some advanced scripting language or something? I can't imagine that this tool wouldn't have something like that. But as you said, tools like these probably either A) Open up the door for those interested in programming but feel overwhelmed. or B) Allow someone with "no knowledge" to make something they never had a chance to before.

I really look forward to seeing what this tool can do in the long run.

Sorry, but about limits of visual programming I just have something to say: Unity doesn't have a visual programming system (except paid addons) and is for "low/medium level programming". Unreal Engine have Blueprints, and CryEngine does also, and actually you can make a full high quality game with only blueprints (visual programming) on Unreal Engine.
So basically that's quite false, the industry is going to visual programming as it totally empower productivity. For me, visual programming is just future, and the future will prove us.

For example: You can even test quantum programming with a kind-of visual tool from IBM, check their website.

Cool, but why Wii lol.

The console is a tad bit dead, even with Homebrew.

Well in few words: I love the Wii and its community.
In more words,
"Except for one case, the Wii version planning will be maintained in therefore will now be the main priority. Why?
Because Gen7 Engine became with the Wii. Because Gen7 Engine focused on the Wii. Because the majority of the support when I was developing came from the Wii community. And now I have a debt to pay. A debt to this great community, which have always been behind this project even when I announced that the initial version will only support the Switch and not the Wii. So at my eyes the Wii community is more important than the project itself and I will not forget them." Gen7 Engine provides the ability to use C code and custom librairies. That from the start, and that's very important. I know that you will not be able to do everything you want using visual programming, so that was a must have feature and is implemented.

It has its uses for non-programmers as a way to interact with the code easier, but the blocks themselves will always be made by programmers. There is no generic cut and paste of core functionality in quality applications.

This is from the unreal engine website regarding blueprints:

"This system is extremely flexible and powerful as it provides the ability for designers to use virtually the full range of concepts and tools generally only available to programmers."

I will agree though that it seems like a fine engine especially if you can just use C.

Yeah, that's what offers Gen7 Engine, visual programming and hybrid C support to eliminate potential limits.
As for UE Blueprints, I already developed on that engine (game development being a lobby for a while now) and I can say that you can without problem make a full game just with that. Even CryEngine will soon release its new major visual programming system, Schematyc.
The productivity gain is undeniable.

That's cool man, but if you've actually finished a game in unreal, wouldn't you say you could now just as easily make the game with or without the visual component?

This is great for teaching someone programming concepts, comparing this to blueprints a huge stretch. Looks like anther scratch clone. https://scratch.mit.edu/

Personally I hate Scratch, but you can take it like that. I hope to make Gen7 Engine much better than Scratch.
For example just hybrid node (FSM)-linear programming is something Scratch doesn't have. And it is a totally different system.

That's true I myself didn't finished my project under UE, but I know people that done it with just visual programming.
But on Unity, yeah I made a full game with visual programming just using a third-party paid addon named Playmaker which is not even done by Unity itself, so I assume that UE Blueprints is developed by UE developers themselves and therefore can do far better due to the level of integration, including making a full game just with it. But well you don't need to trust me, don't take my word for it and see by yourself.

Thanks for the work mate. To be honest I still like using DevkitPPC but I'll give this a shot for Wii Homebrew.
