Are you using autorcm?

Hold the power down for 20 seconds and then turn it back on, then try to send the payload again

You can also inject the payload with TegraRCM. If you connect your switch to your pc and have TegraRCM started, you can check if the switch is in RCM.

I know you can see on tegra rcm gui if rcm is detected or not which is helpful

You first need a way to enter RCM! You need something to bridge the Pins eg. Jig/Paperclip. Then Power your Switch off. Power your Switch On while holding the Vol + Button. If the Screen stays Black you can try to send a Payload either via Android or PC.
