I recently modded my Wii and added USB Loader GX. I added some games and it worked fine. After I added a GameCube game all of my games gave me a black screen when I load them.
please don't recommend bad cIOS revision.
some games don't work with r53, always use r52.
some games don't work with base56, always use base57.
some games don't work with either 56 and 57, and in that case we will help on case by case basis
so, it would be nice to know more :
which version of the loader, which softmod, which game, which HDD (PLEASE, NO FLASHDRIVE ! THEY ARE NOT WORKING), etc.
Most of the created threads about USBLoaderGX not working is because of people using flashdrives. they don't work with any other loaders too, not just USBLoaderGX.
Maybe we need a big red letter notice in the usbloader section, but I'm sure people wouldn't read it.
hmmm, you talk about nintendont here?First time I load a game it initializes mem card then goes black.
Each time I load that game after that, it just goes black.
most HDD are working.
WD are recommended
Seagate can have issues, but work mostly
Toshiba are reported having issues and not working at all (same as flashdrives!), don't buy that brand.
then, the settings are the common ones :
d2x v8 final or v10 r52, base57, if possible in slot249
all loader's settings to default, unless you have base57 in slot250 then you need to change it to that slot
set loader's IOS to 58 if HDD still not detected
hmmm, you talk about nintendont here?
because there's no memory card for wii games.
did you try using nintendont directly from hbc? are you sure it's USBLoaderGX issue? because this thread is about this loader.

I’m having this same issue.Hello, I've exhausted all possible options gathered from multiple threads to overcome the black screen issue. I'm thinking its possible I have corrupt game files - how can I test that theory? and is there anything else I can try from a softmod standpoint?
I FOUND A SOLUTION TO MY ISSUE.
Hopefully it'll help you out if you're reading this.
Ok so I found a fairly recent wii modding video that showed me how to install homebrew, cIOS, a wad manager, usbloaderGX, support for Gamecube, etc.
In short, I did all that stuff to the tee. I was getting the black screen/freezeup issues upon loading a wii backup game through the harddrive i had plugged in. Anyway I have a bit of a hoarding issue when it comes to computer bits and pieces and I have quite a few hard drives sitting in a box in my store room. So I tried loading on a regular sized hitachi, seagate, and wd drive, all resulted in the same issue. I've reloaded cIOS I dont know how many times, different revisions, different settings within the loaded, like forcing ntsc, pal, use global... basically a whole bunch of suggestions i've read from checking out the message boards and youtube, etc. Didnt have alot of luck but upon reading a BUNCH of Cyan's stuff, as well as all the crap i've tried, I figured ok revision 8 final of cIOS is probably the best one to go with.
So then i tried formatting these different drives as WBFS, dual partitions, etc. That didnt work for me either... until I tried a plain jane 16gig lexar flash drive, formatted it fat32 and 16k clusters. Loaded up some games, they all work. ok great.. but thats only 16 gig.
>>This whole time i've been using a hard drive dock that's externally powered.<< During my rummaging around in my pile of tech stuff in my store room I found a small laptop hard drive enclosure and I just so happened to have a hitachi hardrive that fit inside of it, this one wasnt powered externally, it was powered through the usb. So more built for space saving than the larger dock was.
Anyway, it worked!
I'm not sure what it was, whether it was just a fluke that the smaller hard drive in the usb powered enclosure worked, or whether it had something to do with the fact that the larger drive dock was externally powered (I dont see how this could be the case... but who knows...). Could have maybe been the usb cable length or possibly even a faulty usb cable, although it works fine everywhere else on the larger dock vs the short cable on the drive enclosure.
Anyway here are the settings and the hardware I wound up using in the end:
either a flash drive or usb power drive enclosure
cIOS r8 final with Cyan's suggested settings (r10 might have worked, but I wasnt going to mess with it when it started to work for me)
usbloaderGX with global settings active on all games and global settings at their default values
wii backup manager was used to format ALL the drives as FAT32 with 16k clusters. (not sure if 32 clusters would work with the usb or enclosed drive, i wasnt going to test it when stuff started working)
I think that was about it. I hope reading about my little adventure in getting my issue fixed helps someone else out there with the same issues.
Good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to lay out your adventure as it is very similar to mine - I can empathize. I've done all these steps so many times, I actually understand what you're saying.
I will experiment with different hard drives - I've tried external and USB powered drives, but they were both 4 and 2 terabytes respectively (WD brand) - so maybe if I decrease the size I'll have better luck.
Thanks again.
Well after all that - I did happen to get the warning screen to strap the controller to your wrist, but then a black screen. #progress - do you think it has anything to do with the loader settings in USB Loader GX? After I installed v8 final as instructed above, I wasn't able to specify the loader settings to utilize base 57, that prompted me to uninstall all cIOS other than 57 and 58, but I was still unable to specify 57 and it's default went to "200"
Hello,Hello,
I have a HDD Lacie working with softmodded wii. Had to reinstall homebrew. etc. Now i get a black screen with most games. Kids very sad. Could somebody help please i already tried a lot.
