Hacking Question Switch doesn’t recognize SD after trying to install Atmosphere

seems like a loose sd card reader. try reseating it like somebody else suggested. I had similar issues with my original switch.

however I had no clue on doing it myself so i eventually sent mine in to nintendo and they fixed it and sent it back. At this point in time I wouldn't trust them to not send back a different unit that's patched. Also if they find any trace of tampering they will deny service and charge you for the shipping.

How did you update from 7.0 to 7.0.1, ofw? So you update and then got the exfat update while still on atmosphere then rebooted? Is that right?

So I installed atmosphere. Got the notification for the sdcard update to make it work, (don’t know why I got it after installing armosphere) then my card was very iffy. It was working off and on so I updated to 7.0.1 to see if that would fix it. Now it doesn’t work at all. The switch still works fine. I can RCM into it and send payloads but sd slot is completely unrecognized

If on cfw should you only install exfat update via choi? Or is it ok to take the exfat update from ninte on cfw?

I’m gonna try that when I get home before reseating the SD Adaptor. I’ll report back what happens.

Looks like it really is just loose. If I push on the SD slot with the card in, the switch detects it and prompts me to restart to use. I did and it worked fine. Now the issue I have is one of the screws are striped on one of the joy con rails. Is there any easy way to get that screw out and replace it? If the SD adapter is just loose then I will keep the switch and repair it myself.

EDIT: Looks like I have a surefire method for it to detect the SD card. When the SD card clicks in, I can pull the SD slightly out and the Switch detects it perfectly. So does that sound like a reseating issue or something that Nintendo has to fix?

Now the issue I have is one of the screws are striped on one of the joy con rails. Is there any easy way to get that screw out and replace it?

First thing, make sure you're using a good quality screwdriver, with the exact required size. Most screws are stripped because of using a screwdriver that is slightly smaller than it should be.

Once you have the right one, apply a lot of force on the screw, like pulling the screwdriver straight into the screw, and while maintaining this pressure, start unscrewing very slowly and steadily. This should do it.

If that's not the case, or the screw is damaged beyond that, some people will say to Dremel the sucker off, but this is risky and only if you have experience and precision.

So, one thing you could do is to carefully 'solder' a thin hex key to the screw-head, with a little bit of epoxy metal putty. Let it dry for some minutes, while keeping the hex key in place. And then just unscrew the key with the screw attached. Just be careful not to put putty over the chassis.

Hope any of this works.

My bad. I misunderstood. I thought you meant all 3 in the middle area of the JoyCon rails. Well, I took it apart, reseated the SD Adapter. Luckily I had a tri-wing screwdriver laying around from my old Xbox days of taking stuff apart. So far so good. SD card is read all the time with just inserting it like normal. Got atmosphere running beautifully, well Kosmos. I've got 2 switches. One for online play and one strictly for modding. Already got a few nsp's installed. Seems easy enough. Thank you all for the help. Never would'be though just to reseat the adapter. I hope it continues to work
