I'm new to the Switch and console hacking. I have an early serial number unit, so I know it's hackable for sure, but I'm not ready to tinker with CFWs yet. I'd like to avoid boxing myself into the current OFW if I don't have to.

Since 7.01 is fully hackable and supported by both Atmosphere and SXOS, would I be okay with logging into the eShop to buy some games to enjoy my Switch? Then I won't log online again and stay on 7.01 until I'm comfortable with modifying it.

The longer I wait to more risky it gets as the eShop requires the latest firmware to access because I've been thinking of this since OFW 6.x.

Bzzzzzzzzt wrong, sxos only works if you already have a 6.2 emunand then you can update your sysnand

but long story short, yes you can, but if you need to reinstall them for whatever reason and you end up banned then you can't access the eshop to redownload them

If they have already ran cfw it wont be clean even if they do that

Thanks for clarification.

Ok folks. I've run into an issue installing NSP files and I am completely out of ideas.

System: Atmosphere 0.8.5, Hekate 4.9, FW 7.0.1

Problem: I was trying to reinstall an NSP I had previously had on my Switch but removed. When the issue started, I was on FW 6.2. When trying to install it through Goldleaf 0.4, the system would freeze and then crash with error code 2168-0002. If I try to install using Tinfoil, the system doesn't freeze and crash, but immediately gives me the "Failed to install NSP" message. Originally this was just on one .NSP, so I kind of thought it was specific to that file, but I tried to install other stuff and had the same issues on every NSP I tried. All stuff I've previously had installed on the machine.

What I've done: I downloaded a new set of files from SDSetup and tried then. Same error. I updated to the newest versions of Kosmos and tried then. Same thing. I deleted everything off my SDcard, formatted the card, downloaded a fresh set of SDsetup files and installed those. Same error. I've downloaded the sigpatches from this site and still have the issue as well.

I'm kind of lost. I'm not super deep in the scene or anything, but I've been using ReiNX first and now Atmosphere for 6-7 months and I've never had any issues that I wasn't able to solve.

Anyone have any ideas what could be going wrong? I feel like it's got to be something I'm doing incorrectly, but I'm just not sure what that is at this point.

There are uses for Wi-Fi settings outside of playing online or updating your games over the Internet. Certain CFW have homebrew tools that can update the CFW whenever there is an updated version. You can also use FTP if you don't want to turn off your console just to put some files on your SD card. Lastly, there are ways of playing certain games using simulated LAN over a network that require Wi-Fi settings to work in the first place. For people who want to utilize these features but delay their ban, its useful to block telemetry/updates with tools such as 90DNS.

Indeed its useful no doubt, but the point of using CFW in my opinion is to to enjoy playing back up games as well as knowing keeping low will get you back to OFW without a ban is a plus but the fact that going online knowing will flag your console leading to the chance of getting banned something I don't want to experience. Nonetheless I've configured my network with 90DNS method and it did denied access to eShop but that would be my last resort if a certain game requires it. However, from what I've understood Atmosphere can't load .XCI, So does having a genuine cartridge games is useless now? Also I have downloaded a game and it has the .XCI extension. How am I going to load this on Atmosphere? Any pointers please would be awesome.

Hi, got two questions.

1. I’m currently on firmware 6.0, which one is recommended to use now?

2. I saw an update for a Lego game, and it said firmware 6.2. Does that mean that the update will update the firmware, or does it mean that it will require that firmware?

I got a second switch and transfered all my users over before I started exploiting my old one and have a nintendo online subscription. I then restored my nand so all the users are back. I don't plan to go online with the old one but am worried if it happens on accident somehow my nnid account could be at risk of a ban. Can I unlink the nnid offline somehow? Should I not be worried and they only do console bans?
Account bans are so rare and limited to very severe offences. But if you have any doubt, you can try initializing the system as well as deregistering the primary console holder.

There should be an accompanying error code when it failed to install with Tinfoil. Check the error code with the list from this thread.

Atmosphere cannot mount .XCI files but you can either install them into your system or convert the files into .NSP format with a wide variety of tools. Some examples include dOPUS, n1dus, 4NXCI, and xci2nsp.

  1. Any firmware is good although 6.2 is arguably the best as everything can be installed/played on that firmware while retaining universal CFW support. The only issue is no eShop access or online play but those are things you shouldn't be using with a hacked console anyways
  2. It requires that firmware

Smash requires a firmware of 5.1. It is possibly asking for a game update, not a system update.

Thanks for pointing me to that. If my specific error isn't listed, should I go to the dev with it?

There is a spot that says 0x002 which is how my error code starts (mine is 0x00299002), but it just says to give the file a smaller name and to update the firmware. I'm on current FW and still crashed when trying to install after renaming it and cutting off excess stuff.

Okey. Thanks a lot.

So what is the safest and easiest way to upgrade to 6.2?
I`m already on 6.0 with ReinX and autorcm enabled.

Yes, report it XorTroll in the Goldleaf thread. Not sure what Tinfoil build you tried but I recommend using the 883e build in case you haven't already which you can find here. If you have already tried that or just want another Tinfoil .NRO file to test, you can try the one from the Fluffy thread.

Use the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX.
