Yeah, the only actual lawsuits I've read about were for uploaders who were distributing thousands of different copyrighted materials. Still, I think I'll continue using PeerBlock, since I never want to have to spend more time interacting with Comcast than is absolutely necessary.

I've used time warner(now spectrum), and comcast, theyer both just money hungry bastards, but comcast I think would rather kill all of their employees and their family's before they would cut off your internet. But yes, id rather never talk to comcast ever again myself. Just so everyone knows if you buy your own modem, you move into a new place that has had comcast, you just plug your modem in and if it hasnt been too long (or even if it has you can go to the street and plug it in, but thats a story for another time), itll take you to a web page to sign up and you can skip the activation fee. Also if you moving to a new place that comcast serves the area, but not your house, try and sign up before signing the lease/buying the place NO MATTER IF THEY TELL YOU IT WILL BE FINE ON THE PHONE, just so you can meet the tech at the scheduled time to be certain they will do the install, because if it cost them anything they will pretty much tell you "no not serviceable" even if required by law in the area, recently took me 6 months of arguing with them to get them to do it, after they first confirmed it was serviceable, they even tryed to get me to pay $2000-6000 of which I would have to first pay them $500 just to check if possible, I will also add I live in one of the biggest citys in the country and this was on a major street with the cable node 15 feet away. If anyone else ever does run into this problem feel free to DM me and we can go over a few things you can try.

Were you signed in to a Google account while downloading? Did you copy/share the file into your own Google Drive account? Presumably you didn't somehow disable Google's default HTTPS.

There is no past evidence of anyone receiving a copyright strike for simply direct downloading through properly encrypted means. I'd be even more suspicious if the exact file you downloaded has not been DMCA'd yet itself.

Barring entrapment (i.e., the rightsholder uploading their own content to mess with people), I just find it hard to believe you received a strike just for downloading as you say you did.

It was direct and I was using a Linux device left on over night to download it (that night I download 2 games, 1 wii, and 1 switch) and I only got a notice for the Wii game :/

Im sorry man but if anything maybe you downloaded a torrent from google drive, because direct downloads dont lead to notices.

Must be one hell of a Wii Game for att to send it. I have att here in south Florida. I have a static ip and have had it since 2005. I have not received a letter before. I not really sure why. I dont even use a vpn. only recently i have begun to not use torrents for tv shows. I use DC++ and open directories through tor to download stuff. Perhaps its that i never download movies over torrents?
I have downoaded over 800 wii games mostly direct downloads never had an issue.

What "Legal file" did you download anyways? dont download popular tv shows and movies with torrents. Specially HBO shows like game of thrones.

The OP's story has unraveled, so I wouldn't put much stock in it.

I've been downloading from google drive for a few months, I paid monthly for a 100gb, but looking at the logs it keeps i'll go back to file sharers instead. some of the logs you can't delete all the files names you downloaded.(shared with me, quick access and recent) . maybe google can see these logs.

It was handy to download files really quickly but like I said i'll go back to either free or buy a mutli file sharer account, as I've done for years without a problem.

the last "strike" I got i assumed was fake cause cox will tell you what file got you nailed but the last letter didn't told me to log onto my account to view the infraction (red flag there) anyways since then I used 100% file hosters and 0 torrents haven't heard from cox since

It may be possible and I'm just unaware of it, it's just that the OP stated in the original post that it was a legal file then it was a Wii or Switch game so I'm just reading in between the lines a bit. He's also 18, there are some people mature at that age but probably more immature. I just asked him to prove it which I doubt he'll do.

yes your right about him changing his story, but I'm a bit wary of using google drive to download now, I remember what happened to MEGA, thou I dont recall any users getting it trouble.

Just because there's logs that can't be deleted doesn't mean Google has the man power to go over those logs (probably billions of them) prove that they're pirated material, figure out your ISP and notify them. Google really is the source of almost all piracy if you get down to it because it almost always starts with a Google search. I doubt they even care or have the resources to care about notifying your ISP.

Don't get me wrong they have the money to do that if they wanted to, but I don't see them wanting to.

I have Charter and have only had strikes for torrents, never direct links as those are not 24/7 monitored. I don’t buy this story as it would be near impossible to monitor every single link for pirated content 24/7 then have that info handed over to the right people who can then give that info to your ISP.
