There's really no such thing as a legal backup and it's odd to me that you install from XCI instead of just using NSP files since you don't use sxos but to each his own I guess.

Uh, yeah there is such a thing. The court case revolved around people taping movies/etc with their VCRs. Backups are legal. Using other people's backups is copyright infringement. I own all the games I made "backups" of, and I installed them so that I don't have to dig through my increasingly large pile of games. There's really no such thing as a legal backup and it's odd to me that you install from XCI instead of just using NSP files since you don't use sxos but to each his own I guess.
Did you purchase a second license to use that copy that you made?Uh, yeah there is such a thing. The court case revolved around people taping movies/etc with their VCRs. Backups are legal. Go back to school. You obviously didn't learn enough.
The only thing SX allows me to do is to boot the XCI files without installing them.
Fair Use Act. You don't need to.Did you purchase a second license to use that copy that you made?

IIRC they could also just boot XCIs without installing them.Huh? They have their own installer for XCI files. It's up to version 1.4.

Dude...READ THE COURT JUDGMENT"Fair Use" is kind of bs because it only protects specific instances of copyright infringement such as those where the content is being used for nonprofit educational purposes, reporting or review etc.

"I fail to see how a supreme court case regarding MAKING BACKUP COPIES is relevant to anything besides betamax players"I fail to see how a court case that happened over 30 years ago over betamax players relates at all whatsoever to any of this but I'm not going to argue over it. Also you don't need to go to school to know what piracy is.
You don't need to resort to insults and I got off of work 3 hours ago. Funny thing is I'm not even anti-piracy but I'll admit to doing it. If I copy a game I'm not gonna sit here and say it's a legal copy."I fail to see how a supreme court case regarding MAKING BACKUP COPIES is relevant to anything besides betamax players"
Shouldn't you be in school? Or working your McJob?

The insults are because you seemingly have the inability to read. Backup copies are legal. Using OTHER PEOPLE'S backup copies is NOT legal. You don't need to resort to insults and I got off of work 3 hours ago. Funny thing is I'm not even anti-piracy but I'll admit to doing it. The grey area is circumventing copyright protection, which in itself is not legal (DMCA violation.) But the actual backup copy is legal. It's not circumventing copyright protection when using the system itself to extract it.
Again, I can only assume it's a McJob or something that doesn't require reading. "OMG Betamax is not Nintendo Switch! It's not relevant!1111"
If you make a legitimate dump of an eshop games that you legitimately own, completely uninstall the game, and install the legitimate backup you won’t need any patchesTo my knowledge there isn't a way to run any backup without patches, legal or otherwise.

I mean, I can take pictures of all the titles I own and then my home screen with them all installed lol. Is there some better way to install them "legally"? I use N1dus after making a dump with WAIN dump tool.If you make a legitimate dump of an eshop games that you legitimately own, completely uninstall the game, and install the legitimate backup you won’t need any patches
The only purpose for ES patches is piracy
That’s probably the most “legal” way you could do itI mean, I can take pictures of all the titles I own and then my home screen with them all installed lol. Is there some better way to install them "legally"? I use N1dus after making a dump with WAIN dump tool.

for xcis you don’t need ES patches (ticket patches), but you do need FS patchesCan't installed XCIs could be ran w/o patches? I thought it was because they don't need titlekeys, and because the data is already decrypted or am I wrong?

Well, that *sounds* like bullshit since I've been running from August on without a ban. Atmosphere patches are supposed to circumvent this.If you dump your cart as XCI, then "install", which is simply converting to NSP first anyway, your certificate is invalid regardless and you may as well have pirated the dump from some site online. Only running XCI's that are mounted by SXOS is an exception to this.
