I just modded my Wii followed this guide groovypost dot com/howto/softmod-nintendo-wii-easy/. Now it comes to try to get some loaders I seen that neogamma was recommended on that guide and usbloader. They recommend getting cIOS and I found the latest version on their GitHub but I'm unsure on how to download and install. My laptop with the memory card reader is running debian and I seen that some of these require windows software.

I guess I can run the programs on my desktop and try to find a way to transfer the files to my laptop.

Any help with how I would install the newest versions and where I would place these on my ad card

Thanks

Neogammer is mainly for burnt disc and has been obsoleted for a long long time. Only the first few batches of Wii produced before 2009 can read burnt disc. Later models changed the optical drives and blocked that feature.
Spent a few bucks to buy a SD card reader for your desktop, problem solved.
If you don't even want to spent any money then do more research like google "debian file transfer to windows"

PS. don't follow old guides (though that one is 2017...). We have the best guides/gurus here

I was wondering then as I purchased an older Wii just so I could play legal GameCube games and use a GameCube controller.

I tried to install cIOS to 249 it showed a initializing bar and quit out to show that 249 failed it makes me wonder if a cIOS on 249 was installed by Wii mod batch 3.0 . When I run d2x cIOS installer states version 3.1 on the home brew menu. So I start to setup to install cIOS to 249 it shows a green initialization for a few seconds then shows 249 in red. Yet when I mouse over to 249 it states ios 249 rev 21008 v10 beta 52 d2x-v10-beta52 base 56 rev 65535. I had no problem installing 250 it went through a long process and showed green afterwards.

I read on here that usbloader gx would read NTFS so I copied a legal iso to the root could not initialize the hard drive had it plugged into the usb marked port on the back. So I switched it to fat32 the iso I have is just dance 2017 lol I know but it's what I have that's legal. Anyways since it is 4.7 I used Wii backup manager to transfer it to the flash drive. Powered off the system plugged in the drive as I read the Wii is not PNP. Tried again with usbloader gx ver 3.0 r1272 could not initialize usb HDD. So I tried with wiiflow 4.2.1 it loaded the usb flash drive after setting it to usb1 but when loading the game it just goes to a black screen then crashes to the Wii menu. I tried again forcing 249 and same thing. Am I running anything out of date that or something else I can try.

Thanks

Post a sysCheck: https://gbatemp.net/threads/posting-a-system-check.300279/
NTFS should work. But there are two drawbacks, it's read only so you can't dump discs directly to it (might not be a big deal), also it won't work with Nintendont so you can't load GC backups. FAT32 with 32k or 64k clusters is recommended.

at least Configurable can :)
agreed that almost everything that's not a Wii usb loader is incompatible
Hmm, then I guess maybe the newer cIOS versions have R/W support for NTFS. Since the NTFS support AFAIK is in the cIOS itself.
It's been a long time since NTFS support has been a talking point, and back then it was read only. But I suppose there's no reason they couldn't include newer NTFS drivers that have R/W.

Check out ModMii, it's all you need

I downloaded mod Mii 6.5.0 in case I need it but it has two exe files and no apps folder is there a guide to this? Also since I already modded my Wii with Wii mod batch 3.0 is there any chance on making things worse or will this just replace what is required?

Thanks

Run ModMii or modmii skin on your PC, it will overwrite all older/inferior mods. Modmii will build you a custom guide based on your answers to some questions. There's more information and videos under the usage page on the modmii website.

Since my Wii is already modded can I skip over installing the hbc bootmii priiloader. Now this is asking to install ios236 should I do this or is that something that is obsolete?

Taking a look at the wads it wants to install and they are d2x-v8-final isn't this going backwards as I just installed v10 or should I let this install the old cIOS and reapply the updated 249 and 250? Is there anything updated for the cIOS as I seen just dance 2018 required use of a different cIOS.

Right now I don't have more than an usb 8gb flash drive could this be the issue with it not detecting a HDD with usb loader ?

Thanks for your help

You could be running older versions of the homebrew channel so I suggest u don't skip steps, they might be redundant but in the time it took u to ask and get an answer u would've been done. Your modmii guide would even tell u that u can use the homebrew channel if u have it to launch the hackmii installer instead of having to use an exploit, so there are shortcut tips in your guide if u read the fine print.

D2x v10 is basically the same as v8, no harm regardless of whether you overwrite or not.

Thumb drives have really bad compatibility that's probably going to be an issue.

Even though the flash drive was picked up in Wii flow?
It can be "picked up" but does it play games? Chances are if it won't work in USB Loader GX, it won't work in WiiFlow either, it will give you a black screen or kick back to system menu when you launch a game.

Yes that is exactly what it is doing. I went ahead and reinstalled everything and now I'm on configurable usb loader.

I left the themes at default. I just want to make sure under games I read existing config right below the GUI style. I would get names from games list titles add all named to settings list. Now for device I would pick usb then partition I can choose fat once I get a bigger usb device I can change this correct?

After that I would generate settings.cfg ?

Would I need to save any other settings buttons? Sorry for asking the guide ended at launching the configurable exe.

Thanks again for your help

Well I will have to see if maybe the flash drive is incompatible with configurable as I never saved the config yet and auto just picked up a 2gb partition. However with Wii flow I was able to launch the backup and play so looks like I got one loader working. Also I had the drive in the wrong slot never had it at the side on the case port thanks for configurable loader for pointing it out. I still can't get it to pick up the device from the channel that was installed. I will have to try to fix that later on but at least I got it working.
