The side rail SL and SR buttons don’t work on the left Joy-Con once their ribbon cables are compressed but there is no visible nicks or scratches, any help?

It's weird because I did the shell swap in May of last year but this problem started occurring in December

You might have to look into replacement part then, it doesn't do that on it own without it being drop or being mess around with like shell swap etc recently.

Thanks for your help I was looking for a white shell swap anyways this clear plastic material is trash after a while

Shell isn't really the problem, probably because the ribbon got damaged somehow, Clear shell is nice, I got clear see through one.

Reseat the ribbon cables, make sure the pins in the connectors aren't damaged, and post some high res up close pictures of the ribbon cables and the connectors if possible.

If you have another you can swap out the part to confirm that it is the button ribon cable. More than likely if you use them a lot the buttons can be worn out. No reason for ribon cable to break when it doesn't move inside.
Good luck

Yeah I would still remove those 2 screws and swap the board with one from another controller to test. (if you have it) If the other one works you know your issue (or poor connection)
