Your firmware does not currently support exFAT. All firmwares except 1.0 can support exFAT but they need to be patched in order to do so which is not applied out of the box. Updating your firmware is not going to fix booting CFW especially because the exploit relies on the hardware of the console so firmware is largely irrelevant.

How can I add exFAT support then. Could you point me to a tutorial?

The easiest way to add exFAT support on a console without exFAT involves using FAT32 but since FAT32 is objectively better than exFAT now, there's not much point in adding exFAT support. We have ways of bypassing the 4 GB limit of FAT32 and more importantly, FAT32 has zero chance of corruption unlike exFAT.

Anyway the easiest way to add exFAT support is by using the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX.

Well, fugg. What nao?
Reformat the SD card to FAT32. If its bigger than 32 GB, you have to use a third-party program like GUIFormat.

In order to use ChoiDujourNX I have to be running a CFW, and I'm unable to do that because I get a black screen after the Atmosphere spash and don't know why.

If the SD card is not formatted to FAT32, now is the time to do so. If it is larger than 32 GB, you will have to use a third-party program to do so such as GUIFormat.

It is formated to FAT32 using GUIFormat. It still freezes on the ReiNX splash screen or gives me a black screen after the Atmosphere splash

There are 2 different types of bans; normal/soft bans and super/CDN bans. The only difference between the two is that a CDN ban will prevent system updates but both will block eShop access, online play, and game updates. Also accounts are rarely, if ever, banned. Meaning even if the console gets banned but not the account, you can still use the account on another console.

What's my next best move then if I want to update?

Which Atmosphere files are you using?
Is it better to use sx tools does hekate slowly damage SoC or cause battery issues ?
Not sure where you heard that from but nothing damages the SoC. Linux used to cause a battery de-sync but that was fixed ages ago. Plus Hekate comes with a fix for battery de-syncs.

You can try the CLEAN UP SYSNAND portion of this tutorial but I cannot speak towards its safety nor its success.

So i havent posted in this forum in ages but i decided to get off my ass and hack my switch despite being able to for what i imagine is months now. Laziness is a curse.

However before i do, i realize that i probably havent done as much research as i thought on the subject. I assumed the switch was hacked wide open fast, like current 3ds scene and took my time, but from what i understand were still basically in the early stages of switch hacking to be more widespread.

So my switch is an old model with out the rcm methods patched, so at the very least for hacking at all im in the clear. The real issue is my switch is above the 4.2 (4.2.3 i think?) firmware which means to my understanding, burned fuses prevents downgrade and thus total cfw implementation. To my knowledge anyways. As in i can hack the switch, install homebrew and the lot, but like old 3ds methods im forced to have to use the rcm method every time i want to use the features if i ever turn my switch off/ reboot. Is this the case? Last i recall theres also other exploits i can install it make this a non issue but i keep hearing conflicting information on /hbg/.

Additionally im confused about the various file types for switch games. What are they and the benefits/disadvantages? Are these comparable to the file types for 3ds games and how?

Finally, from whay i understand, even with hacking, in order to play a certain game or use certain software, its to my knowledge that the software still has to be up to date when applicable, thus when new updates drop a game is still unplayable until the proper updated exploits are released. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for answering my essay of a post

Halp:

so i updated to 6.2 because…
anyway. i updated my injector and my sd files with atmosphere for 6.2

i booted into cfw. it started just fin. i opened homebrew and it says there is no apps in the sd card. also non of the games load, including ones installed in nand.

then i tried reinx and that loaded just fine, with same results. no apps and games don't launch.

anyway. i can't figure this one out. it was all working before.

First off there is no other method out in the wild yet other then the rcm way. Devs say they have one for 4.1 and below but haven't released it and not said if or when

So nps files are cia on 3ds. Xci are 3dx (cart files) on 3ds
I like nsp for easy install and what not.

When you update your OS it updates a file on the system telling it the latest game versions. You usually can just hit run anyway or fins the update nsp online
Some games say that need x os but are encrypted with a lower key which you can use the nsp installe r tinfoil to ignore this and install

Check for archive bits also with atmosphere make sure you have the sigpatches

with reinx make sure you have the homebrew redirection (100D folder in titles or hbl.nsp in reinx)

Yo. Got a Nintendo switch with XAW100787#####. It's above XAW100700# but below XAW100800#. Safe to hack? Version 4.1.0. Already blocked all updates. My NS-Atmosphere just came in as well.

My laptop died 3 weeks ago and is getting repair. Anyway I can do this through my phone? If so, where is a guide?

Check the serial number sticky thread

yes there's an app. For guides check the guide sub forum
I did check the serial number thread it states " XAW100700# are safe, and that XAW100800# and above are likely not safe. I'm asking because mine falls between these 2 values... Mine is above 700, but below 800.
