Hey, sorry I've been unresponsive today, folks! Had some life stuff to take care of.

Thanks to everyone helping to narrow down
the flashcart issues.

One thing to try: someone on Reddit mentioned that their SD card was formatted with a really small block size, and that without changing anything else the latch started working when they reformatted with a larger block size. So, that might be an easy thing to try.

This is a beast of a game, so there is a good chance you've never tried to load something as big before on your cart. Couldn't hurt to try it!

I will eventually respond to everyone asking questions, and I'm putting together a list of peoope that have problems on their flashcards, but... There is a lot going on here right now. Haha.

The good news is that we were close to breaking 3000 downloads earlier today, so that feels great for the team! :)

Thanks for your enthusiasm, and sorry we've not been able to directly andwan everyone here today. Thanks to everyone helping each other out in the community with this!

Say anyone want to print the english Magic Master book into a hard paperback book? I guess it will cost a lot for only 1 copy so may be we can to a group printing and make the overall cost down.

I had the same problem — but only with YSMenu!
The game works perfectly with the original R4i-SDHC kernel though!

Just move everything (except for the games and saves, of course) from your flashcart into a backup folder on your computer and put THESE files onto your flashcart instead:
h(tt)ps://www(dot)mediafire(dot)com/file/t9b816yh8sbjsng/R4i-SDHC_originalKernel.zip/file

I had that problem (on my original R4i-SDHC kernel) when using the patch from the first post in this thread.
Patch the original Japanese ROM with the ARM7 patch by Hephaestus instead:

Then the game will run perfectly, as you can see here:

thank you so much man. it actually works.

Would be awesome. Since the only way to have that book in english (physically, at least) would be to throw a large sum of money on resellers for the the wizard's edition of the PS3 version.

taht won't help. the books of the nds and the ps3 version are not identical.
the ps3 book is a bonus and not required, the nds book is!

Also praise the ROM hackers and photoshop wizards! :) This game, more than most due to the Magic Master book, needed a lot of photoshop skills. Huge thanks to @1c4rus @3rd and @ants.400149 for all their hard work on the book project!

I have just been the chief cat herder, I didn't do everything myself. The list of people that worked on this game is included in our Magic Master PDF and it takes up 3 whole freaking pages! Insanity!

i never meant to exclude them

Me and drwhojan got it working on our editted YSMENU v.7.0.5. We both are using Original R4 DS.

It was thanks to @ drwhojan for editting the extinfo.dat and infolib.dat. We couldn't solve the 'sleep mode' issue. Which was said caused by the patch file not a cart compatibility issue?
I've test played for about an hour, so far aside from that 1 issue, everything else seems to work fine. I don't know if not able to temporarily close the console will have any effect in-game progress. Because the only DS game I know of which took advantage of that closing the handheld screens while the game is made to enter sleep mode is a Zelda DS game.

After replacing the existing v.7.05 extinfo.dat and infolib.dat in TTMenu folder with the editted copies, all we needed was add the translated patched rom after making sure it was decryped, there's no need to use the ARM7 patch, but only need to untick the reset check box in YSMenu.

Just for curiosity: which are the differences between the tome of the PS3 version and the one in the DS version? Some users say they are the same but if that's true then there would be no reason in translating the DS one (and translating the DS tome would not have been a hurdle for publishing the DS game in the West).

I applied the Hephaestus arm7 patch and the game plays perfectly on a DSTwo (used in a new 3DSXL). I have played for a few hours, saved multiple times and just entered the Catnap Kingdom. Ni No Kuni on my PS3 is in my backlog, and i think i want to complete it first and then come back and play the DS version. What is everyone else doing?

somebody just mentioned that it's not the same as the tome is a requirement for the ds and a bonus on the ps3.

I'm a bit behind on my FAQ outlining the differences between the two books, but there are many. The world map is conolcompl different, there's Imagen unique to each game, the Dream Eorld from the DS doesn't exist on PS3, the items and synth recipes are totally different, the Star Signs on some Imagen and their weaknesses are different, etc etc.

Under my request, Siliconera made an article about your project's completion!

Woo! Fantastic!

The RomHacking.net page is also up now:

Also, here are a few more nice screenshots showing the full-height backgrounds in some of the towns. I need to teleport around the world more to get the rest of the full screen art, but... What a beautiful game, right?

Desmume on windows. You can reduce the size of the black screen separation bar to get nice shots of the full screen art. :)

The game looks even better when enabling Hi-Res 3D textures on the DraStic DS emulator, plus using the scale2x shader so the text looks sharper now.
I could provide some screenshots...but sadly I'm very early in the game so it's just the real-world hometown.
