Just to get it out there, I have FBI. Will it be able to show all files in the sd?
It depends: FBI 1 (white on black text, has you press R and L to select mode and storage) was not really designed for that; while FBI 2 (has black on white text unless customized, asks you SD, ctr nand, twl nand, twl photo, titles, tickets, ... at startup) can indeed be used as a general purpose file explorer (although it's not commonly used for that purpose)

Noted. I'll check it out in a bit. But ill try a diff method too. I'll use my phone if I need to, just so we can get the ball rolling

Here are the screencaps of my SD card..

For the root:
3ds root.PNG

And this shows the content of the "3ds" folder:
3ds folder.PNG

If you need me to post contents of individual folders other than 3ds, please let me know.

Again, thank you so much for the assistance. I'll follow whatever you guys say and make it as painless for you as possible :yay::yay:

@DocKalbo, see how you have arm9loaderhax.bin on the root of the SD card? That means the ReiNand custom firmware you have is the older A9LH type.

[Precheck] EmuNAND backup
If you have EmuNAND (or RedNAND) on the SD card, you should dump the NAND *.bin image with 3DS Multi EmuNAND Creator. This is if you did not transfer a copy of the EmuNAND into the SysNAND with GodMode9 or Decrypt9WIP.

***
  1. Copy everything off the SD card onto a computer.
  2. Reformat as FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size with Windows File Explorer or with guiformat if it's 32 GB or bigger.
  3. Do a full Write + Verify Test with H2testw. Do not skip this step.
    • Because softbricking the 3DS is very bad, you want to make sure the card isn't faulty or fake.
  4. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files.
    • :!: If any error was reported, stop the test. Replace the hardware failed card. Go back to step 1 or 2.
  5. Do not put the files from your main setup back on yet.
  6. Perform custom firmware update: A9LH to B9S
  7. When you're done with step 6, copy these folders back onto the card:
    • cia - if there are any 3DS games you wish to keep.
    • JKSV - if there were any saves you backed up with JKSM save manager.
    • Nintendo 3DS - this contains your 3DS library of games, DLCs, updates, saves, and extdata.
    • mGBA - if there are any GB, GBC, and GBA roms & saves you wish to back up.
    • Themes - if there are themes you wish to save.
  8. Because a lot of those apps are outdated or have newer versions, you may use the CFW starter kit as a starting point in finding substitutions.
    • CIAngel - no longer works due to Nintendo CDN server side block
    • CHMM2 - use Anemone3DS theme manager instead
    • EmuNAND9 - superseded by GodMode9
    • nightly build of mGBA emulator
    • Retroarch emulator
    • ropbinpayload_menuhax_USA12288_...*.bin - no longer needed; see step 9.
  9. Recommended: With either Checkpoint or JKSM, this would be a good time in backing up all the game saves + extdata.

***

EmuNAND detour (if needed)

If you require data retrieval or merging the EmuNAND over to your SysNAND like backing up the saves+extdata or dumping the titles into *.cia files:
  1. GodMode9 Usage - Creating a NAND Backup
    • For the current SysNAND setup.
  2. GodMode9 → 0:/.../######_XX########_emunand_000.binNAND image options... → Restore SysNAND (safe) → etc.
    • With the EmuNAND *.bin image made from 3DS Multi EmuNAND Creator.
  3. GodMode9 Usage - Dumping a Title
  4. Checkpoint and/or JKSM (to backup saves+extdata)
  5. GodMode9 Usage - Restoring a NAND Backup
    • With the SysNAND *.bin image from step 1.
  6. FBI reinstall the *.cia for any missing games, DLCs, and updates.
    • Those that don't launch may need FBI → Titles → <Name of the Game> → Import Seed
    • Internet connection is required for importing seed.
  7. Checkpoint and/or JKSM (to restore saves+extdata)

***

10. Update the 3DS firmware to 11.9.0-42.
  • HOME Menu → System Settings → Other Settings → System Update
12. Backup the SysNAND again. Keep this as the final copy.

I call upon the she Wolf-Husky, @Lilith Valentine!
If this gets in the way with school, please ignore this.

Hey, so sorry to bother you, but I would like to ask for your help in a matter I'm not familiar with. Knowing that you were THE tester in Rei-Six's development and [yah, this next part is going to sound a bit creepy...] recalling that you were a ReiNand user during A9LH heydays (when I was but a lurker), would you happen to know why @DocKalbo can't seem to update his custom firmware?

Summary

  • DocKalbo bought a pre-hacked CFW'd n3DSXL 11.1.0-34U with what appears to be very early Luma3DS or ReiNand (versus @H1B1Esquire's Menu comparison picture).
    • 20181206_202026-jpg.151246
    • 3ds-root-png.151305
      3ds-folder-png.151306
  • Help and discussion continued in PM. I instructed him to delete his EmuNAND on his 64 GB SD card, merging the two partitions into one. MiniTool Partition Wizard was used.
    • FAT32 + 32 KB cluster, checked with H2testw, and no reusing files from his main setup.

The root of the SD Card

3ds/

ctr-no-timeoffset.3dsx
FBI.3dsx

boot9strap/

aeskeydb.bin | If you get the "OTP Crypto Fail" error.
boot9strap.firm
boot9strap.firm.sha
secret_sector.bin | For n3DS / n3DSXL / n2DSXL models.

cias/
Anemone3DS.cia
Checkpoint.cia
DSP1.cia
FBI.cia
Homebrew_Launcher.cia
lumaupdater.cia

gm9/

etc.

luma/

payloads/
GodMode9.firm
SafeB9SInstaller.bin

arm9loaderhax.bin
boot.3dsx
boot.firm

  • DocKalbo followed the A9LH to B9S guide but SafeB9SInstaller does not launcher.

***

Did deleting the EmuNAND inadvertently uninstalled his custom firmware?

Were there version differences and incompatibilities in arm9loaderhax that requires updating?
  • If so, would this guide happen to apply for his situation?

Thank you,
Mr. Poo

Let me just add, the current SysNAND is on 9.2.0-20U, the previous EmuNAND showing up was Emu 11.1.0-34U. I have a 64gb SD card recently formatted to FAT32 32kb, with no visible partitions, checked with h2testw.

Thank you for the help!

I was actually at work and I am on lunch now. So are you interested in just updating to the current popular setup or interested in updating to best Rei-Six setup? Rei-Six is the updated version of ReiNAND and the Rei-Six setup is recommended to use FastBoot3DS over B9S.

Hi! Well, I've yet to read on the pros and cons of all the current CFWs, and people are saying B9S may be able to support future updates. I actually don't mind what CFW I get as long as it can update to future firmwares (if 3ds will still get some), I can get games easily, and it has few errors :D. I would've settled on the old CFW, but it was a pain booting up. Anyways, thank you for replying, and I would love to hear more from you once you have the time :D

Ok, so it looks like you are either running you are running Menuhax, which means that you need to use the .dat installer for B9S. You should just need to download the latest SafeB9SInstaller and set up your current bootloader to link to the current SafeB9SInstaller.dat.

I have the files for the SafeB9SInstaller and all, unfortunately, I have yet to find out what the bootloader for my CFW is and how to link to the *.dat file. I'm very outdated with the 3DS as the last time I did CFWs was thru RxTools, and that was more than a couple of years back. Could you kindly point me to the right direction on what files/links to read? Thank you so much!

Uninstall menuhax by booting to sysNAND and changing the home menu theme. Then follow https://3ds.guide from the beginning. Follow the optional move emuNAND section when it is offered. If you don't uninstall menuhax before you begin, you'll get a black screen on boot part way through the process and you'll have to uninstall it manually to continue (deleting particular files from the Nintendo 3DS folder).

Just an update. I followed what @Quantumcat advised and have gone through step by step without any hiccups. Currently on "Finalizing Setup: Section II - Updating the System", I decided to update when I get home, as data in the Philippines is oftentimes comparable to its traffic :wtf:.

Thank you so much guys for all the help, especially @TurdPooCharger for tirelessly answering all my noob questions from the first step, and to Quantumcat who gave me all the answers in one post. You guys are awesome!
