I think he mean 2D games with 3D visual, like Sonic 4 or New Super Mario Bros.
I have mentionned Rayman Legend/Origins before my edit because there is some 3D.

2D games with 3D visual..... wait wut?

platformers?
Yes, majority of 2.5D games are platformers, I think OP search more of that.
But there is some great 2.5D games than aren't platformer (Dragon Ball FighterZ come in my mind right now)

there's a neat niche one i played a while back, plays sorta like smash but it's an actual platformer, once i remember what it is i'll update my comment with a steam link
The Smash Bros Series is a good example too.

The Kirby's and Yoshi's games series are too, now that I think about it.

Do you mean isometric view?
I doubt it. Isometric is a long time defined thing going back decades. 2.5D typically refers to an art style where a 3d engine is used to render a typical 2d game (for the most part either out and out classic platformer, puzzle platfomer or "think 16 bit era film tie in"). XBLA on the 360 was rife with it, and it is probably one of the easier ways to get said 8-16bit era style of gameplay today. It being more of a visual style than an out and out requirement also means you get the occasional twist on it and dev playing a bit with the concept, whether by a simple camera tweak which would be nigh on impossible for conventional 2d or vector stuff or something more fundamental/deviating from the 2d thing.

A couple of the better examples of the style in question
